The year 2021 marks the 10th anniversary of the section your systems in which each enthusiast can share their Hi-Fi and / or home cinema installation. For this anniversary date, we would like to further highlight your systems by conducting a series of interviews in which enthusiasts have the opportunity to talk about their installation and the technical choices they made. Today, Mr. Guy T. do us the honor of presenting his dedicated theater room equipped with a 7.1 channel system.
How big is your home theater room? From the technical area (electronics)?
My home cinema room is 8 meters by 4 meters, or 32 m². My equipment is in a NorStone Esse Hi-Fi cabinet.

How long did it take you to make this home theater room?
Since I have a lot of time on my hands, I completed this room in six months, but it remains achievable in just a month.
When and why did you decide to design a room dedicated to home theater?
I had decided to make a dedicated room since 1998, having always been passionate about cinema. The idea was to have a room that was truly cinema-like, with great sound and image quality.
How did you organize the construction work? What was the most challenging?
Being a carpenter, I did everything myself without any particular difficulty.

What is the budget allocation for materials and construction work?
For the material, it cost around 14,000 euros. The work cost less because of my job as a carpenter.
Can you list the equipment used and tell us why you chose these brands?
- Video projector JVC DLA-7500 : image quality and deep black
- Home cinema amplifier Onkyo TX-RZ840 : sound quality, I’ve never had other brands
- Subwoofer Velodyne CHT-12Q : clean bass
- Blu-ray player OPPO UDP-203 : very good image quality
- Five Adagio prestige speakers from Vieta from 1987
- Klipsch R-14S surround speakers
- Butkiker transducer + Earthquake XJ-700-DSP power amplifier and DSpeaker Anti-Mode 8033 SII active filter : to feel the lows
- Zappiti duo 4K HDR AV network player: image quality and 32 TB storage
- Lumene Movie Palace Multi 300C sound transparent screen : 3m40 base
Did you use an acoustic treatment if not, do you plan to use one in the future?
I installed 100mm thick glass wool in the ceiling and in the closed plasterboard walls, low hatches in the corners, as well as a suspended ceiling covered with polystyrene tiles. I also placed absorber panels in the room.

What is the first movie you watched in this room? Which one gave you a taste for home theater?
The first film I watched on this installation is The Professional. I got it as a gift by purchasing one of the first Sony Blu-Ray players (not 4K). The film that gave me a taste for home theater is Cliffhanger. A friend brought a video CD player to my house and we watched it on a CRT television.

How often do you use this home theater room?
I use my room every day, without exception.

Do you watch anything other than movies? Sporting events? Series? Video games? Concerts?
Apart from movies, I watch concerts and sometimes I only put on music.

How do you control the system?
I have three remote controls: amplifier, video projector and Zappiti. Maybe someday I’ll get a universal remote, but nothing for sure yet.
How would you like to upgrade your system?
I would like to change my video projector for the JVC DLA-N7 . I have a friend who has the N7 and I think it’s a great projector!

What piece of advice can you give to someone who wants to make a room like this?
I would say that you have to think carefully about the location of the room and be well informed about the acoustics and the audio and video equipment. Do not hesitate to ask for an opinion from someone who already has a home theater room or is knowledgeable about the topic.
