After updating its 2023 series of OLED TVs to solve a problem of sudden screen dimming, LG has released a new firmware update to correct the same phenomenon on its G2 and C2 2022 OLED TVs.

LG has finally corrected the main flaw of its OLED 2022 G2 and C2 TVs (here the LG OLED97G2): the brightness of the screen should no longer be dimmed unexpectedly.

The 03.33.65 update is now available for models in the LG 2022 C2 and LG 2022 G2 ranges, and should resolve the dimming of dark scenes. This problem is due to the ASBL (Auto Static Brightness Limiter) algorithm developed by LG Display and shared by all OLED TVs. The latter aims to reduce the risk of burn-in caused by the presence of static elements in an image, such as a logo or menu in a video game, by gradually lowering the brightness.

The APL and GSR procedures used by the ASBL technology have long had a flaw: prolonged dark scenes in films, TV series and even video games trigger the algorithm and are dimmed, sometimes to the point of becoming illegible.

Fortunately, shortly after their launch, this year’s LG C3 and LG G3 TVs received a software update to solve this problem, and the same fix has just been made to the 2022 C2 and G2 models.

Following an update launched shortly after their release, the LG OLED C3 (here the LG OLED42C3) and LG OLED G3 TVs let you enjoy your movies and gaming sessions without being bothered by dimming.

It isn’t possible to download the 03.33.65 firmware directly onto your TV just yet, but it can be downloaded to your computer from the Software and Drivers page of the official LG website. You can then transfer it to a USB stick and apply it manually to your LG OLED TV.
