For several months, many rumors about a new version of the PlayStation have been floating around the web. Although some pictures had been leaked, Sony hadn’t made an official announcement. But the firm has now revealed the PS5 Slim to the world. It has the same design as the original model, in a slimmer format.
PS5 Slim: what are the specs?
One of the most frequent criticisms of the PlayStation 5 was its size. The Japanese manufacturer has corrected the situation with a more refined version that should now allow it to be placed under certain televisions. The standard edition, with the Blu-ray player, measured 390 × 104 × 260mm, and weighed 4.5kg. The slim version, meanwhile, weighs just 3.2kg and measures 358 × 96 × 216mm.
Regarding technical specifications, the PS5 Slim features the same components as its larger sibling. No changes on that front. It’s the same PlayStation 5, in a “mini” version. It’s worth noting, however, that the connectivity on the front panel has changed, with the removal of a USB-A port in favor of a USB-C one. We’re not complaining, though, as these will enable you to recharge your controllers and connect the PSVR2, the brand’s virtual reality headset.
PS5 Slim: how much does it cost?
The PlayStation 5 Slim should be available in the United States from November 2023. The manufacturer hasn’t released a date for Europe yet, but it should probably arrive soon. The PS5 Slim Digital Edition (no Blu-ray player) will be available for €449.99. The PS5 Slim Edition Standard (with Blu-ray player) will cost €549.99. The same prices as the original console.
The stand for positioning the PS5 Slim vertically is now optional, but will cost €29.99. Sony has also announced that a Blu-ray player can be easily installed on the PS5 Slim Digital Edition. It will be available for €119.99. This optimizes manufacturing costs, as factories only have to build one model, since the optical reader is optional.
