British manufacturer Q Acoustics continues to expand its range of connected speakers with the new Q Acoustics M40 floorstanding speakers. This 2 x 50W RMS active model offers an all-in-one solution for enjoying digital music, wired sources and TV sound.
A wireless floorstander
With this new model, Q Acoustics now offers four active speakers divided into two ranges: two versions with integrated network player, the Q Acoustics Q Active 200 and Q Acoustics Q Active 400 and two more affordable Bluetooth-only models for wireless use, the Q Acoustics M20 and the Q Acoustics M40. On the latter, the integrated receiver supports aptX HD and aptX Low Latency codecs to maximize listening quality and limit latency when pairing the speaker with a TV via Bluetooth.
Wired connectivity
In addition to Bluetooth, this Q Acoustics M40 active floorstanding speaker can be used with wired sources thanks to its extensive connectivity. Located on the back of the main speaker, it features optical, RCA (line level), mini-jack and USB-B inputs. This makes it possible to connect a turntable, a small network player like the Elipson WM Multiroom, a TV, and even a computer. Its USB DAC mode ensures Hi-Res music playback at up to 24-bit/192kHz resolution. Finally, a dedicated output allows you to connect a subwoofer like the Q Acoustics QB12.
Acoustic design
The acoustic design of the Q Acoustics M40 connected speaker inherits tried-and-tested elements from the brand’s passive models, including the C3 Continuous Curved Cone driver used on the recent Q Acoustics 5000 range. This innovative model uses a 5″ cone with a unique, smooth and continuous curve profile. This structure maximizes bass response while optimizing midrange precision. Dynamics are also improved, with better bass damping and reduced harmonic distortion.
The Q Acoustics M40’s tweeter is borrowed from the speakers in the Q Acoustics 3000i range. This 0.8″ soft-dome model is completely mechanically decoupled from the speaker cabinet. This allows it to be physically isolated to eliminate any risk of interference, thus optimizing high-frequency reproduction. This active floorstander promises a natural, accurate reproduction up to 22kHz.
Power: 2 x 50W RMS
With a power output of 2 x 50W RMS, this pair of Q Acoustics M40 floorstanding speakers will provide an effective audio reproduction in most living spaces. Amplification is fully integrated into the main speaker. Connection to the passive speaker is done via a conventional speaker cable, allowing you to position them how you choose. What’s more, placement is facilitated by a switch that adapts the sound reproduction according to their position: free-standing, near a wall or in a corner.
