Since our playlists vary according to our mood, Spotify is launching an innovative concept! The music fans enters a short text in the “AI Playlist” field to create a playlist adapted to their current state of mind.

AI Playlist, an instant, personalized service

With AI Playlist, the Swedish streaming platform hopes to offer the ultimate service, capable of designing a personalized playlist in the blink of an eye. This new feature aims to go further than the themed playlists already available on the platform. AI Playlist is an advanced version of the playlists generated according to the user’s musical tastes. The added value lies in the ability of artificial intelligence to create a personalized collection of tracks in just a few seconds.

A ChatGPT-style prompt

To generate a playlist, the user simply writes a prompt in a dedicated box. The AI then takes care of the rest by selecting matching titles. This modus operandi is reminiscent of ChatGPT, the famous service developed by OpenAI that popularized the use of artificial intelligence.

The AI Playlist service is still in beta for Premium subscribers in Australia and the UK. It has been available since April 7, 2024 for iOS and Android users. At the launch of this new service, Spotify presented a few examples of the possible uses of AI Playlist.

Context: the music lover is about to enjoy breakfast in bed. They then activate the AI Playlist service and request “an indie folk playlist for a gentle wake-up”. In just a few seconds, they receive a proposal with dozens of tunes. If the user is still not satisfied, they can refine the selection, requesting, for example, the addition of “a few chill R&B tracks”. A new proposal is then generated. AI Playlist is based on an exchange between the user and artificial intelligence.

Still in the test phase, this feature is currently unavailable on the French version. A few weeks after the integration of music videos, also in beta, Spotify continues to test new features with the aim of enriching the user experience.
