For several years now, Son-Vidéo.com has regularly visited Dali for training purposes and to offer the best advice to music and cinema enthusiasts. With the recent release of the Dali Rubikore range, our teams had the privilege of learning more about this new line and the epic story of the Danish brand, including a visit to the factory where every innovation has been born for over forty years.

A look back at the history of Dali

Founded in 1983 by Peter Lyngdorf, DALI stands for Danish Audiophile Loudspeaker Industries. It is the brainchild of this sound genius, who also launched the Lyngdorf Audio brand, specializing in speakers and electronics, and the Steinway-Lyngdorf brand, dedicated to the ultra high-end. At the same time, Peter Lyngdorf founded the Nordic Hi-Fi chain Klubben.

Established in Nørager in northern Denmark, the brand creates speakers that carry an undeniable Danish identity, combining typically Scandinavian design with rigorous acoustic engineering. At the heart of this hub are the RD center, manufacturing plant, warehouse and administration, as well as several auditoriums (hi-fi and home theater) housing Dali’s most iconic speakers.

Where are Dali speakers made?

Speakers, subwoofers, soundbars, headphones… All are developed in Denmark. Although part of the production is located in China, Dali has a Danish factory where the vast majority of its drivers are made.

More recently, the brand has taken over the entire cabinet-making process for speakers in the Opticon range onwards. This process includes machining, painting and varnishing, as well as sanding and assembly, to ensure that the final product is of the highest quality.

Son-Vidéo.com teams from all over France were able to witness the manufacturing process of the brand’s speakers, from component assembly to final packaging and quality testing. The visit gave online consultants, in-store hi-fi and home theater specialists and the editorial team a better understanding of the technical requirements and craftsmanship for which the brand is renowned.

Listening to the brand’s flagship speakers

We also had the opportunity to do enjoy an in-depth listening experience of the brand’s latest systems, starting with the new Dali Rubikore 8 speakers.

These speakers benefit from the technologies introduced with the top-of-the-range Dali Kore. They feature a triple 6.5″ driver with SMC technology, bass-reflex loaded via three Continuous Flare ports. The hybrid tweeter combines a 1″ dome with a ribbon for maximum detail. We enjoyed their superb musicality. The whole system is housed in a magnificent cabinet.

We then had the opportunity to listen to the excellent Epikore 11 speakers, which proved to be a firm favorite for our teams. Launched to celebrate the brand’s 40th anniversary, this 4.5-way model also incorporates the most advanced technologies by Dali. Featuring seven drivers, including four for bass and a hybrid tweeter with a 1.4″ dome, these speakers offer a remarkable listening experience, with exceptional balance, dynamics and sense of detail. This pair of speakers enhances every musical score listened to.

We then enjoyed a listening session with Dali Kore’s top-of-the-range floorstanding speakers. A true aesthetic and acoustic masterpiece, these four-way models offer the ultimate listening experience, thanks to exclusive drivers including two 11.5″ bass models and an extraordinary 1.4″ tweeter. These very large floorstanders are distinguished by outstanding linearity, exceptional balance and a remarkable sense of detail, remaining extremely faithful to the original recording.

The Dali Kore high-end speakers offer an exceptional listening experience, with perfect fidelity to the original recording.

Finally, we were able to listen to the Phantom S range of architectural speakers in the heart of a home theater. The sound immersion was impressive, with the speakers perfectly integrated into the walls and ceiling, offering an enveloping, unobtrusive acoustic experience. The clarity and precision of the dialogue, and the depth of the bass, turned every scene into a captivating moment, demonstrating the effectiveness and quality of this range for home theater installations.
