Among the giants of the high-fidelity market, JBL is a pioneer in terms of environmental commitment. The American firm now uses recycled plastic in all its Bluetooth speakers. This eco-friendly approach has earned JBL a new label from SCS Global Services.

Who is SCS Global Services?
SCS Global Services is an independent international organization that helps companies, governments and institutions ensure the integrity of their environmental and sustainability practices through a variety of certifications. These can highlight the use of recycled materials, sustainable forest management and fair trade, for example. The aim of SCS Global Services is to promote sustainable practices in various industrial sectors around the world, including electronic equipment such as speakers.

Founded in 1984, SCS Global Services certifies the environmental performance of third parties in a wide range of industrial and public sectors. In 2023, the California-based organization developed a new certification for electrical and electronic equipment. This label, called Recycled Content, is the first step in the collaboration between SCS Global Services and JBL.
JBL is betting on recycled plastic
The launch of SCS Global Services’ Recycled Content label coincides with the renewal of JBL’s new range of portable Bluetooth speakers. In order to validate a more environmentally-friendly approach, the American manufacturer sought the expertise of SCS Global Services. After an exhaustive study of how JBL portable speakers are produced, the organization awarded its Recycled Content label to the following models:
- JBL Clip 5
- JBL GO 4
- JBL Xtreme 4
- JBL Boombox 3 Wi-Fi
- JBL Charge 5 Wi-Fi

The Recycled Content certification attests to the use of recycled plastic in the manufacture of JBL’s five portable models. These Bluetooth speakers incorporate a variable proportion of recycled materials. This ranges from 27% of the plastic used for the Clip 5 and Charge 5 Wi-Fi models, to 41% for the mini GO 4 speaker. This certification, valid until February 2025, also covers the JBL PartyBox Club 120 (26% recycled plastic) and JBL PartyBox Stage 320 (23% recycled plastic) party speakers, as well as the JBL Authentics range of connected speakers.
The JBL Authentics 500 speaker is a showcase for the brand’s expertise in technology and environmental commitment, as it is made from 48% recycled plastic. Proof that quality and sustainability are perfectly compatible.
