Focal is entering the world of connected speakers with its first pair of wireless floorstanding speakers: the Focal DIVA UTOPIA. This ultra-high-end model, priced at €35,000 per pair, combines the manufacturer’s best acoustic innovations with Naim amplification (800W total power). It supports the latest streaming technologies and includes full connectivity with HDMI eARC, making it the ultimate all-in-one audiophile system.
An acoustic masterpiece
For its first connected speaker, the French manufacturer strikes hard with an uncompromising model that promises to take its place among the market tenors. The fruit of five years of research and development to achieve excellence, these speakers inherit the 1.06″ pure beryllium M-profile inverted dome tweeter that made the ultimate Focal Grande Utopia so successful. These speakers therefore have all the same advantages: excellent impulse response, outstanding clarity and a rare ability to reproduce the tiniest nuances up to 40kHz. IAL (Infinite Acoustic Loading) technology has also been retained, optimizing the tweeter’s rear damping to reduce resonance and distortion, for purer, more accurate sound.

The tweeter of the Focal DIVA UTOPIA speakers is combined with a 6.5″ midbass driver. The brand’s signature W cone uses a double-layer structure with two sheets of glass affixed to a central foam body to maximize rigidity while maintaining very low mass. This cone is mounted on a TMD (Tuned Mass Damper) surround to suppress unwanted vibrations and increase dynamics. The same architecture is used for the four woofers. These are grouped in pairs on the two sides of the speaker and mounted in a push-push configuration to eliminate unwanted resonance and vibrations. As a result, the Focal DIVA UTOPIA boasts deep, powerful bass down to an impressive 27Hz.

Naim amplification
For the amplification, Focal turned to British specialist Naim, who developed specific units for the Focal DIVA UTOPIA. Each speaker incorporates three class AB amplifiers, with a 250W module for the woofers and two 75W modules: one for the tweeter and a second for the midbass driver. As a result, each speaker benefits from a total amplification of 400W, for a total power output of 800W per pair.

HD streaming
The Focal DIVA UTOPIA wireless speakers also benefit from the same network ecosystem as Naim connected amplifiers, such as the Naim Uniti Atom HDMI and Naim Uniti Nova. These include compatibility with Spotify, Qobuz and Tidal streaming services, as well as access to web radios and music shared on the local network. The speakers’ internal DAC supports Hi-Res files up to 24-bit/384kHz and DSD128 tracks. A precision clock combined with proprietary IDC (Intelligent Dynamics Clocking) technology optimizes conversion accuracy. In addition, music can be streamed to the Focal DIVA UTOPIA speakers via AirPlay 2, Chromecast and Bluetooth, with support for the aptX Adaptive codec.

Connectivity with HDMI eARC
Also designed to enhance wired sources, the Focal DIVA UTOPIA speakers feature optical, RCA and HDMI eARC inputs for easy pairing with a wide range of sources: CD/SACD player, pre-amplified turntable or TV. A USB-A port is also included, so you can enjoy your music library stored on a USB stick or external hard drive. The two speakers can be linked wirelessly via an exclusive 24-bit/96kHz UWB (Ultra Wideband) transmission, or via an included RJ45 cable, bringing the resolution up to 24-bit/192kHz.

Remarkable design
Entirely made in France, the Focal DIVA UTOPIA speakers take up the aesthetic codes of the passive models in the Focal Utopia and Focal Sopra ranges, with a luxurious, slightly sloping cabinet. The latter features an innovative high-density polymer structure with internal reinforcements for increased mechanical strength and total absence of coloration. The cabinet is mounted on a wide aluminum base for optimum stability. This stand features a ramp for the port, which has an optimized profile to ensure smooth, turbulence-free airflow.

Easy integration and control
For control, the Focal DIVA UTOPIA speaker can be operated from its remote control or with that of a TV connected via HDMI eARC. Management of the various streaming services and multi-room groups is easily carried out from the Focal Naim mobile app for iOS and Android. Conveniently, this pair of speakers will also be able to be controlled vocally thanks to its compatibility with Siri and Google Assistant assistants. Home automation integration is also included, with Control4, Crestron, Savant and RTI compatibility, enabling automation and the creation of routines.

With the Focal DIVA UTOPIA speaker, the Saint-Étienne based manufacturer offers one of the most ambitious connected models on the market, providing an all-in-one solution worthy of the best separates systems. This extraordinary model, reserved for the most discerning audiophiles, will be available exclusively in Son-Vidéo.com stores in Bordeaux, Nantes, Strasbourg and Grenoble.
