Vincent Matias, Laser and Audio product manager at Hisense France, agreed to answer our questions about the Hisense PX3-Pro and Hisense C2 Ultra projectors.

Can you tell us about the new Hisense PX3 Pro ultra short throw projector?

The Hisense PX3 Pro’s goal is to provide a comprehensive and limitless home theater experience in the living room! Firstly, remember that this is a device from the Laser Cinema family, which for us means that it is sold without a screen and that it has an adjustable ultra-short focal length. Therefore, this projector is placed directly at the foot of the wall or screen to project a very large image. It can be moved closer or further away to get an image that measures between 80 and 150 inches across.

Is HDR content supported?

Yes, as the PX3-Pro is certified HDR10 and HDR10+, but also Dolby Vision. In addition, it features the Filmmaker mode and is even IMAX Enhanced certified, which is one of the new features on this device.

The other new feature is 3D support!

That’s right! Until now, it hadn’t been available in the range, but during the PAVS (Paris Audio Video Show, ed) we met a lot of users who asked us about 3D. So it was added to Hisense’s Laser Cinema catalog in 2024.

And what about sound and integrated decoding?

As for the picture, the most common formats are supported. Thanks to the IMAX Enhanced certification, you can enjoy DTS:X. Naturally, the projector is still Dolby Atmos compatible, adding to Dolby Vision support.

Inside the device you’ll find an audio system featuring two midbass drivers and two tweeters, for a total amplification power of 50 watts (2×15 watts + 2×10 watts). This provides broader spatial imaging and clear dialogue, while improving the reproduction of the highs and providing dynamic lows.

The Hisense PX3-Pro’s audio section allows you to enjoy energetic soundtracks, clear dialogues and convincing spatial imaging.

The two tweeters have a special feature: they are placed at either end of the projector in a special compartment

Yes, they’re both built into a special alcove, with a stylish effect provided by gentle backlighting inside. Moreover, they are positioned in front of a cone-shaped diffuser that widens the field of diffusion for the highest frequencies. The result is a wider soundstage and better perception of dialogue and soundtrack detail, whatever the viewer’s position in the room.

Is this laser home theater projector also suitable for gamers?

It ticks this box too. Up until now, we mainly focused on families, sports fans and movie buffs. Now, we’re also answering the needs of gamers, as this is the first Xbox-certified UST laser projector. This means that it is capable of handling 4K up to 60Hz, but also Full HD up to 240Hz, for optimal image smoothness. It also provides an input lag inferior to 30ms that can even be lowered to 12ms with the DLP turbo mode.

Among Hisense ultra-short-throw laser projectors, the Hisense PX3-Pro is the first to be Xbox certified.
The Xbox-certified Hisense PX3-Pro projector is 60Hz 4K and 240Hz 1080p Full HD compatible, with an input lag of 30ms in 4K and 20ms in FHD.

Is the Hisense PX3 Pro a smart projector?

Yes, and this is the strength of Hisense laser projectors today. They are “Smart” products, equipped with Vidaa, Hisense’s proprietary OS. The latter is the smoothest and fastest on the market and it’s still evolving, both in terms of user experience and apps. We recently added SFR TV, bringing a more traditional TV environment to the screen.

One last detail: the remote control has been completely redesigned!

Yes, it now works without regular batteries and instead features a rechargeable battery. We’ve equipped it with a small solar panel to recharge it using light. It also has a USB-C port, which gives you around three months’ battery life after just 20 minutes’ charging.

Now let’s talk about another great new 2024 Hisense product: a compact projector that can be moved from one room to another!

Yes, the Hisense C2 Ultra, one of the three projectors in the new C2 range. The C2 Ultra is the flagship model! This new range expands our line of compact laser projectors. It joins the C1 that we already know, and which remains in our catalog.

The Hisense C2 Ultra is equipped with a triple laser light source and a true optical zoom? Dolby Vision/Atmos and HDR10+ compatible to provide superb 4K HDR image quality, it is Xbox-certified and equipped with a 40-watt audio system by JBL.

Is the new Hisense C2 Ultra projector aimed at gamers?

The Hisense C2 is also Xbox-certified. It offers the same gaming features as the PX3 Pro: 60Hz 4K, Full HD in 240Hz and an input lag of 12ms when switching to DLP turbo mode.

Is it also suitable for home theater enthusiasts?

This projector is particularly suitable for home theater sessions. It supports 4K HDR picture formats, such as HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. You’ll also find the Filmmaker mode, as well as IMAX Enhanced, which now equips our laser projectors.

The Hisense C2 Ultra (bottom left) is very much at home in a theater room, revealing very bright, high-contrast images.

Does the Hisense C2 Ultra have speakers?

Yes, and one of the C2 Ultra’s characteristics is that it features a subwoofer that is built into the base of its stand, to support two stereo drivers. Like the C1, the audio system is designed by JBL and has a total power output of 40W. It supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X sound formats.

Does the Hisense C2 Ultra projector feature TriChroma technology?

Yes, the entire Hisense C2 laser projector range features the exclusive Hisense TriChroma projection technology, which uses three RGB lasers to provide unprecedented color coverage in projection. The C2 Ultra therefore covers 110% of the BT2020 color space, which means you can really enjoy a maximum of shades on the screen.

What brightness can the C2 Ultra’s triple laser light source reach?

It can reach 3000 lumens to provide a bright picture with vivid colors, and to enhance the dynamic range. This projector also offers good contrast levels, with a native contrast of 2,000:1, higher than on the C1.

The Hisense C2 Ultra, the brightest (3,000 lumens) of the C2 range, capable of projecting a large image during the day or in a bright room.
Thanks to a high brightness of 3000 lumens, the Hisense C2 Ultra can project a large image during the day or in a bright room.

What image size can we expect from the C2 Ultra?

The C2 Ultra can project a picture that measures 65 inches to 300 inches across. Its projection ratio of 0.9 to 1.5 allow is to be installed at a distance of 1.3m and 10m from the screen.

Another extremely important feature is the C2 Ultra’s optical zoom

Yes. Up until now, we didn’t have a true zoom on this type of device. On the C1, you could only zoom out. Now, with the C2 Ultra’s 1.6x optical zoom, you can enlarge and reduce the size of the image without moving the projector and without reducing the resolution, so without any loss of quality.

The result is greater installation flexibility.

That’s exactly what we wanted to offer with this new laser projector range: ease and flexibility for installation. This is also demonstrated by the ability to rotate the projector 360° on its rotating stand. The C2 Ultra also tilts to 135°, so you can project onto the ceiling if you want.

And this projector adjusts the image automatically, just like the C1!

Yes, the C2 Ultra is a projector with no limits and no restrictions: you can place it wherever you want in the room, and it adapts to the projection conditions. At Hisense, we call this AutoMagic, which includes keystone correction, obstacle avoidance and focusing, all fully automated. What’s more, if you have a projection screen at home, the projector detects its edges and places the image precisely within the limits of the screen. A future update may even bring an additional adjustment feature, but I can’t say any more at the moment!

Does it have the same smart TV and Vidaa features as the PX3?

Yes, that’s exactly the strength of the Hisense ecosystem today: you get the same experience in terms of the range of services and apps, but also in terms of speed. Whether you’re using a portable projector like the C2, an ultra-short-throw projector like the PX3 Pro, or even a Hisense TV.

What connectors does the C2 feature?

It is equipped with two HDMI ports, one of which is eARC compatible, but also two USB 3.0 multimedia ports. There’s also an RJ45 Ethernet port for wired network connectivity, in addition to Wi-Fi.

The Hisense C2 Ultra’s connectors include two HDMI ports, one of which is eARC compatible, as well as two multimedia USB ports (USB 3.0), an optical audio output, a mini-jack audio output and an RJ45 Ethernet port for wired network connectivity, in addition to Wi-Fi.

Can you tell us how the C2 laser projector range, which includes the C2 Ultra, is structured?

The Hisense C2 Ultra is at the top of this range, with all three laser projectors featuring a 360° swivel base that allows the projector to be tilted and rotated.

Just below the C2 Ultra is the C2 Pro version, which has the same main features as the C2 Ultra, but without the subwoofer for audio. In terms of image, it retains the optical zoom, to adapt the image size (65 to 300 inches) without losing resolution. Of course, TriChroma laser technology is still present, with the 110% coverage of BT2020, and a brightness that reaches 2,600 lumens. This ensures a good projection experience in an environment with variable ambient light and in semi-darkness, still with a contrast of 2,000:1.

Then there’s the little sibling, the Hisense C2, which is a slightly more compact product. It builds on the success of the C1, with a number of improvements. The TriChroma laser light source is back, offering more luminosity (2,000 lumens) and an increase in contrast from 1,600:1 to 1,700:1. The C2 also has a zoom function, which is missing from the C1, but it’s a digital zoom.

Are the connectors identical on all three models?

Indeed, all three models have the same connectors, with two HDMI 2.1 ports (one of which is eARC compatible), two USB ports, two audio outputs (optical and mini-jack), and an Ethernet port.

And, like the PX3 Pro, there’s 3D support!

Yes, that’s one of the biggest new features of these Hisense 2024 projectors. We mentioned 3D in cinema lasers, and it’s true that the three projectors in the C2 range also incorporate 3D. All you have to do is activate this function in the projector’s menu, then pair it with DLP Link-compatible 3D glasses to enjoy your films in 3D.

To finish, who are these Hisense laser projectors designed for?

Through its various laser ranges, Hisense is seeking to revolutionize the home theater experience. We are targeting all those who want a very large image size and very high brightness, with total integration, thanks to our range of ultra-short-throw projectors. But we’re also meeting the needs of consumers who want a long-throw projector that can adapt to their environment, that can be moved easily from the bedroom to the living room or installed on the ceiling, and that offers the best picture quality in all circumstances.
