CES 2025: LG unveils the new GX9 range of OLED gaming monitors

LG’s UltraGear range has been enriched with new monitors designed for hardened gamers. Among them, the LG UltraGear 45GX990A stands out for its motorized panel that adjusts its curvature up to 900R, while the LG UltraGear 45GX950A offers a fixed curvature of 800R, each with a screen size of 45″ (114cm). Meanwhile, the 39″ (99cm) LG UltraGear 39GX90SA is positioned as a gaming monitor and smart TV hybrid, thanks to its integration of webOS.

LG UltraGear 45GX990A and 45GX950A ultra-wide gaming displays

The LG UltraGear 45GX990A and LG UltraGear 45GX950A models share the same basic technical specs. They feature a 45″ (114.3cm) OLED panel in 21:9 format, with 5K2K resolution (5120 x 2160 pixels). This definition, coupled with a density of 125 pixels per inch, guarantees outstanding sharpness for gaming and multitasking.

The LG UltraGear 45GX990A is distinguished by its ability to switch from a flat screen to a 900R curvature thanks to a motorized mechanism, offering unique customization for optimal viewing comfort. For its part, the LG UltraGear 45GX950A monitor features a fixed 800R curvature, ideal for an immersive field of view. Both models feature Dual-Mode functionality, enabling switching between different definition and refresh rate configurations, such as 5120 x 2160 pixels at 165Hz or 2560 x 1080 pixels at 330Hz.

Note: the “R” of a screen corresponds to the radius (in millimeters) of the circle it would form if the curvature were extended. The smaller the value, the more curved the screen.

LG UltraGear 39GX90SA: the monitor and smart TV

The LG UltraGear 39GX90SA monitor, meanwhile, is aimed at an audience seeking a compromise between gaming and entertainment. This 39″ (99 cm) model also adopts an OLED panel offering a definition of 3440 x 1440 pixels in 21:9 format, with a refresh rate of 240Hz and a response time of 0.03 ms. The 800R curvature enhances visual immersion, while DisplayHDR 400 True Black certification and 98.5% DCI-P3 coverage ensure vibrant colors and deep contrast.

Featuring the webOS interface, this gamer display can also function as a stand-alone entertainment hub, enabling direct access to streaming platforms without the need for a PC. In terms of connectivity, it features DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 ports, as well as 2 x 7 watt speakers and a microphone, facilitating communications directly with the screen.
