At the start of the new year, the Danish brand is expanding its range of turntables. The Argon Audio TT-4 MK2 is a new generation of the TT-4, with a reinforced anti-vibration platter and a more powerful Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge.

TT-4 MKII: a new anti-vibration platter

The new Argon Audio TT-4 MK2 turntable is positioned between the TT-4 and TT-4 Special Edition. It differs from the first generation by incorporating a new anti-vibration platter. Still made of aluminum, but heavier than its predecessor (1.73kg vs. 1.4kg), it features rubber reinforcements. These dampen vibrations caused by motor rotation. As a result, the new platter promises optimum record stability during listening sessions.

A higher-end cartridge

In addition to an optimized platter, the Argon Audio TT-4 MKII platter also benefits from a cartridge upgrade. The Ortofon 2M Red model of the first generation gives way to the 2M Blue and its elliptical nude stylus. This moving-magnet (MM) cartridge incorporates a split pole pins, a proprietary Ortofon technology that enables the 2M Blue cartridge to maintain an extremely linear frequency response curve, as would a moving-coil (MC) model. A guarantee of quality, the Ortofon 2M Blue is renowned for its sonic performance, delivering dynamic, precise sound that’s rich in detail.

ATS technology

In addition to these improvements, the Argon Audio TT-4 MK2 turntable retains the strengths of the first generation, starting with the carbon-aluminum alloy tonearm. Highly rigid, it ensures a clear musical reproduction. What’s more, the TT-4 MK2’s tonearm inherits proprietary ATS (Anisotropic Torsion Stabilizer) technology. There is a very fine slot under the arm that eliminates the internal resonance caused by torsion, which leads to vibrations that impair the playback of your vinyl records.

The carbon and aluminum tonearm limits internal resonance, while ATS technology dampens vibrations, providing optimal playback conditions for the Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge.

The TT-4 MKII also keeps the practical built-in preamplifier. Switchable, it makes the turntable perfectly upgradeable. Vinyl enthusiasts can build a compact system with a connected speaker, or use the auxiliary input of their hi-fi amp without the need for an external preamplifier.
