Since March 28, 2025, Canal+ has taken picture quality to a new level by integrating Dolby Vision technology into a selection of its films and series. This advance enables subscribers equipped with compatible hardware to enjoy a significantly enhanced visual experience, with sharper contrast, more vivid colors and a striking level of detail.
What is Dolby Vision?
Dolby Vision is one of the most advanced HDR (High Dynamic Range) formats, thanks to its dynamic image processing. It is capable of adjusting brightness, contrast and colorimetry on a scene-by-scene or even frame-by-frame basis, to deliver a more precise, natural and striking image. Unlike HDR10, which applies identical static metadata throughout the program, Dolby Vision uses dynamic metadata. This enables display parameters to be constantly adapted, depending not only on the content, but also on the capabilities of the screen used. The result: controlled high brightness levels, finer detail in dark areas and a more accurate reproduction.

The first content available in Dolby Vision on Canal+
Since March 28, Canal+ subscribers have been able to discover or rediscover several films and series in Dolby Vision:
- Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
- Dune: Part Two
- Bad Boys: Ride or Die
- Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
- Paris Has Fallen
- Twisters
- Trap
- Fly Me to the Moon
Other titles scheduled for release in the near future include Beating Hearts, The Count of Monte Cristo, Gladiator II, Joker: Folie à Deux, Venom: The Last Dance, and Families like Ours. These programs will be gradually added to the platform. For the moment, however, Dolby Vision is only available for video-on-demand. Deployment of this technology for linear broadcasting is planned at a later date.

How to enjoy Dolby Vision on Canal+
To take full advantage of the image quality offered by Dolby Vision, you need compatible equipment. This starts, of course, with your TV or playback device. The good news is that many recent models from manufacturers such as LG, Sony, Hisense, TCL and Philips are already compatible. If you’re using a Smart TV equipped with the myCANAL app, you can play Dolby Vision content directly via the latter, without any additional hardware.

If your projector or TV doesn’t have the myCANAL app, you can enjoy Dolby Vision via a compatible Canal+ set-top box, or a media player such as Apple TV 4K, Chromecast with Google TV 4K, or Fire TV Stick 4K. Of course, it’s crucial that the entire broadcast chain supports Dolby Vision: source, player and screen must all be compatible with this format.
The arrival of Dolby Vision on Canal+ marks a significant step forward for movie and series fans, enabling them to enjoy an unprecedented visual experience, as close as possible to the filmmakers’ intentions. With an ever-richer selection of content and extended compatibility with a variety of equipment, Canal+ confirms its commitment to bringing the best of technology to its subscribers, while Netflix adds support for HDR10+ to cut costs.
