Optimized equipment for greater responsiveness

Porsche has extensively revised the technical architecture of its PCM system. The on-board hardware benefits from optimized computing power, resulting in smoother menu navigation and greater responsiveness in all interactions. This update of the in-vehicle navigation system specifically concerns Porsche 911, Taycan, Panamera and Cayenne models.

The new PCM inaugurates an enhanced App Center, offering direct access to a wide selection of apps organized by theme. Inspired by smartphone app stores, this download center includes both applications developed by Porsche and services offered by third-party publishers.

Users will be able to access streaming platforms (music, videos, podcasts), information services and specific navigation tools such as directions to charging stations and roads suitable for driving a Porsche. Games, karaoke functions and home automation controls complete this constantly evolving offer.

Amazon Alexa and Dolby Atmos

Alongside the PCM operating system interface and architecture, Porsche has announced the integration of Amazon Alexa assistant. This is in addition to Porsche Voice Pilot voice commands. The driver can activate it by voice, from the steering wheel or via a dedicated icon. Alexa can be used to interact with smart objects, manage to-do lists, launch audio content and control compatible third-party apps. This integration enhances the in-car connected experience, offering the same smart features as those used in homes.

In another major announcement, Porsche is breaking new ground regarding in-car audio with Dolby Atmos track support in models equipped with Bose and Burmester sound systems. This immersive technology offers a three-dimensional sound reproduction. By creating a sound bubble around passengers, Dolby Atmos sound makes the experience even more captivating by immersing the listener in the heart of the music.

Amazon Alexa voice control and support for Dolby Atmos tracks are the two big new features of the new PCM operating system.

However, this immersion depends on the audio source. To take full advantage of Dolby Atmos content, you need to subscribe to the Tidal platform and stream music from the app natively integrated into the new App Center. To date, it is the only app compatible with the PCM system. We’ll have to wait for a possible update to see Apple Music and Amazon Music also appear in the catalog.

Summary

With this comprehensive update to its PCM system, Porsche is enhancing the technological appeal of its 911, Taycan, Panamera and Cayenne models. With enhanced performance, an extended App Center, Dolby Atmos compatibility and Amazon Alexa integration, the user experience gains in functionality and fluidity. Vehicles equipped with this new version will be available from June. An evolution that confirms the brand’s ambition to make in-car connectivity a pillar of its identity.
