Cayin N3 Ultra DAP

The Cayin N3 Ultra audiophile player received a positive review, highlighting the quality of its design and construction.
  • Tube or transistor preamplification
  • Dual AKM AK4493S DAC
  • 10-band equalization
  • microSD slot: up to 1TB
  • 4.1″ touch screen
  • 3.5mm and 4.4mm Pentaconn headphone outputs + 3.5mm line output
  • Price: €590

Over the last few years, I’ve switched to hybrid amps, which are cheaper than pure transistor amps and, at the same price, much better, especially for vocals, which are more natural – tubes can’t be beaten in this respect. It’s a real success, the OS works well and is fast, I didn’t notice any problems in 1.4, there’s folder-based playback like on a PC. So yes, I recommend it for this price. Paired with Focal Elegia headphones and FiiO FH7s IEMs, the sound is magical and impressively powerful.

Cambridge Audio Melomania M100 Bluetooth earbuds

Cambridge Melomania M100 True Wireless Earbuds
  • Active noise cancelling and Transparency mode
  • 52-hour battery life
  • aptX Lossless Bluetooth
  • IPX4 certified
  • Melomania Connect control app
  • Price: €129

To start, the soundstage is very wide and well spatialized. The instruments are carefully positioned and delineated. The sound is soft, but has a lot of punch when the music requires it. The bass is explosive when needed and never overpower the highs or mids. Other than that, as all the reviews have said, the battery life is impressive, the best on the market. Cambridge Audio has produced some very good earbuds here, and at a lower price than the competition. I highly recommend them.

Sony 75 Bravia 9 4K UHD TV

The Sony 75 Bravia 9 4K TV lets you enjoy a 189cm picture in a living room.
  • Resolution: 4K (3,840 x 2,160)
  • Display technology: QLED
  • Backlighting: XR | Mini Led
  • Google TV
  • HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision
  • WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3
  • 4 x HDMI, 2 x USB, 1 x optical
  • Price: €3,290

Before buying this TV I had a Panasonic OLED for 3 years. I still have that TV, so I can easily compare it to the 75-inch Bravia 9 that I bought. As far as I can see, the Bravia 9’s image is very, very similar to OLED in terms of contrast. The picture is very good indeed. I’d say the main weaknesses are the TV’s weight and viewing angles. When you move away from the TV’s axis, some blooming appears – not much, but it’s there. However, when viewed from the center, the image is truly stunning and, overall, in no way inferior to that of an OLED.

B&W 705 S3 bookshelf speaker

B&W 705 S3 compact speaker in Mocha finish on a black stand.
  • 2-way bass-reflex speakers
  • 1” carbon dome Nautilus tweeter
  • 6.5” Continuum cone driver
  • Power handling: 120W RMS
  • Frequency response (-3 dB): 50Hz to 28kHz
  • Sensitivity: 88 dB /1W /1m
  • Price: €2,990

I’ve spent hours revisiting albums I thought I knew. With London Grammar, for example, it’s simple: I was blown away. Hannah Reid’s voice soared through the room with a clarity and emotion that was almost unreal. Every detail was there, without effort. The suspended, capsule-like tweeter is not only magnificent, but also contributes to the sensation of purity. It provides incredible lightness and spatial imaging. It’s precise, smooth, never tiring. The build quality is astonishing given the price: perfect finish, premium materials, great care taken with every detail. And with a NAD M10 V3, as I have to opt for compact devices in my home, the pairing is excellent. It’s dynamic, clean and balanced, even at low volume. I don’t regret my purchase at all.

Cambridge CXC v2 CD player

Cambridge CXC v2 CD player
  • Gapless playback
  • Remote control + batteries included
  • S/PDIF coaxial and TOSLINK optical outputs
  • IR mini-jack input and RCA coaxial input/output
  • Price: €690

To replace my old Marantz 6003 CD player that I’d just added an Eversolo Z8 DAC to, I naturally opted for a “simple” CD transport. The Cambridge Audio CXC V2 meets my requirements completely and fits in perfectly with my Hi-Fi system. The transport is much quieter than my “old” Marantz and the tray seems much more solid. My CDs have come back to life thanks to this Cambridge Audio – Eversolo combination. Tracks are enhanced, and new details are revealed, despite having already listened to them many times on my old system. As a result, I’m enjoying listening to my many CDs again, to the detriment of Qobuz, which had become my only source! The only drawback is the display, which is not very easy to read, and the features, which are fairly basic. But not enough to make me regret my purchase. Many thanks to the team at the Avenue Bosquet store in Paris for their advice. I’ll definitely be back!

HiFiMAN Serenade headphone amplifier

Black HiFiMAN Serenade headphone amplifier on white background.
  • Himalaya Pro R2R DAC
  • 32-bit/768kHz PCM, DSD512
  • 4000mW into 32 ohms
  • USB-B, SPDIF coaxial, optical and RCA inputs
  • XLR and RCA outputs, 4-pin XLR, 6.35mm and 4.4mm jack headphone outputs
  • Bluetooth aptX HD and LDAC
  • Price: €1,139

After running it in for around fifty hours, the Serenade provided excellent results with music from Roon via its RJ45 input, and from Audirvana on a Macbook Pro via USB. The sound was detailed and round, the soundstage spacious and the instruments clearly identifiable. The sound was quite warm, notably the vocals, and natural, never harsh. Having studied the subject extensively before buying, this Serenade strikes me as offering excellent value for money, meeting my expectations for all types of music. It’s solid and inspires confidence. No screen, simple operation, no frills, just essential music enjoyment. USB and RJ45 operation is straightforward, with automatic detection. It’s a wise choice, especially with planar technology headphones.

Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-8000F II floorstanding speakers

The Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-8000F II floorstanding speakers received a positive review in April 2025.
  • 2-way bass-reflex speakers
  • 1″ aluminum tweeter with titanium dome and Tractrix horn
  • 2 x 7.9” Cerametallic cone drivers with aluminum ring
  • Power handling: 150W (600W peak)
  • Frequency response (+/-3 dB): 35Hz to 25kHz
  • Sensitivity: 98 dB /1W /1m
  • Price: €1,790

I’ve listened to the Focal Aria, which I find extremely muffled, and Triangle speakers, which I find lifeless – in short, I was beginning to lose hope! Then I listened to these Klipschs. Naturally, these speakers are not without their faults, but given their price, they can compete with speakers 2 or 3 times more expensive, no problem. Firstly, they’re dynamic, they’re fairly open, the bass is clean and doesn’t distort if they’re well-placed. For me, the only problem is a lack of energy at the top end, and the transition between the 20cm driver and the small tweeter is a little weak. In short, these speakers, originally designed for home theater, are in fact a perfectly valid option for hi-fi. They’re neither aggressive nor tiring! Far from it, I even find them quite smooth, and with NAD or Naim electronics they’re top-notch! A quick message to the Son-Vidéo team, with whom I experienced a bit of trouble and a few misunderstandings, but who were kind enough to offer me a discount: THANK YOU.

Yamaha R-N1000A stereo hi-fi amplifier

Black Yamaha R-N1000A hi-fi amplifier on white background
  • Balanced design
  • DLNA, AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth compatible
  • ESS ES9080Q DAC
  • 32-bit/384kHz and DSD 11.2 MHz compatible
  • 2 x 100W into 8 ohms or 2 x 120 watts into 6 ohms
  • HDMI ARC, 2 x optical, 3 x RCA inputs, phono MM
  • Frequency response: 10Hz to 100kHz
  • Price: €1,590

As I only listen to CDs, I won’t comment on the streaming options or other tuners… This is a transparent, well-tuned amp with excellent definition across the entire sound spectrum. The stereo image is wide and deep, with perfectly layered sound levels. The timbres have a lot of details and texture, and the dynamics are excellent. The pairing is perfect with JMR Bliss Jubilé speakers.

Sony Bravia Theatre Bar 9 soundbar

The Sony Bravia Bar 9 soundbar, shown here at the foot of a Sony 4K TV in a living room, received a positive review this month.
  • 7.0.2 channels
  • 13 built-in drivers
  • Spotify, AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth compatible
  • Hi-Res Audio and Hi-Res Audio Wireless certified
  • Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support
  • Bluetooth LDAC
  • 1 x HDMI input and 1 x HDMI ARC output
  • Price: €990

I switched from the Sony HTA 7000 to this Bar 9, and the difference is obvious: coupled with the SA SW5 sub and SA RS5 surrounds, I can finally enjoy cinema sound. The cohesion of the system is truly perfect, the subwoofer really comes into its own, even needing to be toned down a little, as do the rear speakers, but it’s better to turn them down and have a reserve of power than the other way round. The soundbar’s sonic precision is a delight, and the 360 spatial sound mapping is no gimmick, adding a welcome sense of immersion. The ability to manage dialogue volume is a plus, and the night mode now works like a charm. By itself, this SONY soundbar blew me away, but with its accessories, you really enter another sound dimension. The improvement on the previous generation is really significant.

Focal IC BMW 100 car speakers

Pair of Focal IC BMW 100 car speakers
  • 2-way coaxial kit
  • Aluminum/magnesium inverted-dome tweeter
  • 4″ woofer with Polyglass cone
  • Impedance: 4Ω
  • Power handling: 40W RMS
  • Sensitivity: 89.5 dB
  • Frequency response: 80Hz – 23kHz
  • Price: €149

This is a purchase I absolutely do not regret! Very easy to install, no cutting, no soldering, everything is included. It’s truly Plug-and-Play as it is exactly matched to my vehicle (BMW F20) and has completely transformed the sound during my journeys! When you see the shameful speakers that were originally fitted, and then the Focal ones, you immediately understand that this purchase is a no-brainer.
