At High End Munich 2025, the Audio-Technica stand was packed with new products. While the Japanese brand had already unveiled a new range of AT-VMx phono cartridges, it also presented a new turntable. The AT-LPA2 combines a unique design and sonic excellence.

An improved version of the AT-LP2022
The new turntable Audio-Technica AT-LPA2 is a belt-driven manual model. Visitors to the German show crowded around it to admire its superb acrylic chassis. The latter is 30mm-thick to limit internal resonance and vibration, and is based on that used for the limited-edition AT-LP2022, which celebrated the manufacturer’s 60th anniversary.

Visually, therefore, the two record players appear similar. However, the new AT-LPA2 brings several improvements. Firstly, the acrylic platter is thicker, increasing from 16 to 20mm, to guarantee greater inertia and stability for the record.
MC cartridge
But it’s notably with the cartridge that the Audio-Technica AT-LPA2 turntable takes a step forward. Gone is the AT-VM95, as this new model is adorned with an Audio-Technica AT-OC9XEN dual coil MC model. Featuring a nude elliptical stylus, it promises greater detail and improved spatial imaging.

What’s more, Audio-Technica has applied its expertise to every detail. For example, the AT-LPA2 manual turntable comes with two counterweights weighing 130 and 110 grams respectively. This feature extends the turntable’s compatibility with a wide range of cartridges as it can be combined with models weighing between 6.1 and 13.9 grams.
