Every year, the Munich High End is the scene of various announcements from hi-fi players. For this 2025 edition, Audio-Technica took advantage of the German show to present its new AT-VMx phono cartridge range. It features nine models, two of are mono cartridges. Here’s what you need to know.

AT-VMx: an improved version of the AT-VM cartridges
Launched in 2016, the Audio-Technica AT-VM range of hi-fi cartridges has maintained the use of a VM technology double moving magnet (MM) generator developed in the 1970s by the Japanese brand. This innovation is based on the V-shaped magnet configuration, which enhances the magnetic performance of the cartridge. An isolation plate between the coils improves channel separation while reducing distortion.

The new Audio-Technica AT-VMx series takes up this design while perfecting several aspects, starting with the introduction of a new coil wire. PCUHD (Pure Copper Ultra High Drawability) copper is now used in every cartridge in the AT-VMx series. This high-purity material delivers a powerful low-frequency response and gives more space to the sound message. Combined with a newly optimized coil structure that reduces the number of turns, every cartridge in the AT-VMx range offers improved transient response.

AT-VMx: 7 stereo cartridges and 2 mono models
The Audio-Technica AT-VMx range of phono cartridges is aimed at both beginners to the world of vinyl and discerning audiophiles. The Japanese manufacturer offers seven stereo models to suit all budgets, from the entry-level AT-VM510xCB with a conical stylus to the AT-VM760xSL with its exclusive special line contact tip.

Audio-Technica also announced two mono models: the AT-VM610xMONO and AT-VM670xSP. The former features a conical stylus that offers excellent performance for playing LPs and mono singles. The second adopts a bonded conical stylus tip with a 3 mil curvature radius, perfectly suited to the wide grooves of Short Play (SP) records, guaranteeing reliable sound reproduction.
The new Audio-Technica AT-VMx cartridges will soon be available on Son-Vidéo.com. In addition to the cartridges, the Japanese brand will be offering replacement styli from €59 to make it easier for music lovers to upgrade their system. Three models will also be available premounted on a headshell. Prices should start around €120.
