French manufacturer Jean-Marie Reynaud renews its speaker range with the new JMR Lunna MKII and JMR Lucia MKII. Replacing the brand’s two best-sellers, they embody the natural evolution of these iconic models, with new drivers, an optimized crossover, and reinforced cabinets to improve performance while remaining faithful to the musical DNA of the French brand.

JMR Lunna MKII: the iconic floorstander gets a makeover

Modernized design

Designed to blend naturally into contemporary interiors, the new JMR Lunna MKII speakers combine aesthetic elegance with musical refinement. This compact floorstanding model introduces several technical evolutions, starting with a reinforced 19mm cabinet with no parallel walls to improve inertia and bass definition. This cabinet uses a tuned triangular transmission line, leading to a laminar port on the front panel. This allows the speaker to be placed close to the wall, without affecting the music reproduction. The satin black Woodscore finish, shared with the LUCIA MKII, marks a new era in JMR design, combining visual minimalism and modernity.

The JMR Lunna MKII speakers’ cabinet has been completely redesigned to eliminate unwanted reverberation, and benefits from a new finish that makes them easy to integrate into any interior.

New acoustic design

To push the limits of an already popular model, the French manufacturer has integrated a new 5″ midbass driver into the JMR Lunna MKII speakers. It adopts a paper-fiber cone with a 1.2″ voice coil and a ventilated aluminum support. Its copper-ring core linearizes impedance and reduces harmonic distortion. This assembly gives the JMR Lunna MKII speaker enhanced transparency and linearity. It is combined with a second midbass driver of the same diameter, and a 1″ textile dome tweeter with neodymium magnet. The latter is mounted in an isolated chamber to eliminate any interference with the woofers.

Thanks to its new midbass driver, the JMR Lunna MKII speaker offers enhanced linearity and surprisingly deep bass.

To make the most of this acoustic design, the crossover of the JMR Lunna MKII speakers has been carefully recalibrated. This 2.5-way crossover uses asymmetrical slopes of 6/12/12 dB per octave, with crossover points at 300Hz and 2,800Hz. The components are custom-sorted for perfect phasing and a coherent sound image. The JMR Lunna MKII speaker promises excellent linearity from 40 to 25,000Hz, with power handling from 40 to 150W. It will soon be available on Son-Vidéo.com for €1,990.

JMR Lucia MKII: a mini JMR with a strong character

A revisited classic

Replacing the award-winning Jean-Marie Reynaud Lucia, which won a Diapason d’Or, the new JMR Lucia MKII benefits from the same advances as the Lunna MKII, including a reinforced cabinet in high-density MDF for improved inertia. The edges are also rounded, and the cabinet has bass-reflex enclosure with a laminar port to facilitate the placement of the speaker. The large felt front panel limits reflections for improved directivity and a more precise soundstage.

Thanks to its bass-reflex enclosure and front-firing port, the Jean-Marie Reynaud Lucia MKII speaker can be placed close to the wall without affecting the sound reproduction.

New driver

The midbass driver of the JMR Lucia MKII has undergone a major upgrade, while retaining the brand’s signature paper-fiber architecture. As on the Lunna MKII, it adopts a central phase plug in soft rubber, designed to attenuate turbulence and improve the fluidity of the low-mids. The new transducer features a 1″ voice coil mounted on a ventilated aluminum support, a reinforced aluminum basket and a double magnet, ensuring a fast, articulate and rigorous bass response. The 1″ textile dome tweeter, powered by a neodymium magnet, offers a generous extension curve and gentle directivity, conducive to a natural soundstage. The result is a richly nuanced sound, without harshness or auditive fatigue, true to Jean-Marie Reynaud’s musical DNA.

The JMR Lucia MKII’s new driver offers a fast, well-articulated bass, while retaining a very rich midrange.

The passive crossover of JMR Lucia MKII speakers has also been improved, with fully hand-assembled audiophile-quality polypropylene capacitors and ferrite inductors. It offers more precise bass and low distortion over a wide bandwidth from 60 to 20 kHz, with power handling from 20 to 100W. The new JMR Lucia MKII speaker will also be available very soon on Son-Vidéo.com for €850.

With the new Lunna MKII and Lucia MKII, Jean-Marie Reynaud has succeeded in the delicate task of renewing two iconic speakers without betraying their essence. In addition to an attractive aesthetic facelift, these new generations bring real acoustic evolutions to deliver even greater performance, while retaining the much-loved JMR sound, which is smooth, nuanced and emotionally arresting.
