Originally released in 1972, the legendary concert film Pink Floyd at Pompeii has been remastered in 4K using the original 35mm footage, with higher quality audio mixed by Steven Wilson. The movie has also been released in certain movie theaters, with limited IMAX screenings.

An intimate, immersive concert
The film Pink Floyd at Pompeii – MCMLXXII captures the band’s intimate concert held in the Italian city, in the ruins of an ancient Roman amphitheater. This 1971 performance, which took place without an audience, was organized shortly before the release of their album Meddle.
The stunning images of the venue create a unique, immersive experience, allowing you to (re)discover unforgettable tracks such as “Echoes”, “A Saucerful of Secrets” and “One of These Days”. This feature-length film also includes behind-the-scenes footage of the creation of The Dark Side of the Moon at Abbey Road Studios.

Meticulous restoration
The film has been restored by hand, frame by frame, following the discovery of the original footage in the Pink Floyd archives. Lana Topham, the producer and editor who oversaw the creation of this new version, explains “Since 1994, I have searched for the elusive film rushes of Pink Floyd At Pompeii, so the recent discovery of the 1972 original 35mm cut negative was a very special moment.”

The movie’s soundtrack has been remixed in Dolby Atmos, 5.1 and stereo by sound engineer and prog rock musician Steven Wilson. “I’m sure everyone knows that Floyd are my favourite band, so will understand how thrilling it is for me to have been given the honour of creating the new mix. Lana Topham’s astounding restoration of the 1972 version of the film has been years in the making and looks like it could have been filmed yesterday, so I wanted to create an audio mix to match, with as much clarity as I could achieve from the multitrack tapes.”
Blu-ray, vinyl and CD editions
On April 24, 2025, Pink Floyd at Pompeii – MCMLXXII was released in select IMAX theaters around the world, ahead of the release of a Blu-ray edition on May 2. The latter includes two versions of Pink Floyd at Pompeii: the 85-minute feature film and the 60-minute recording of the concert, with Dolby Atmos and 5.1 mixes. You can also relive the concert with the 2CD and 2LP box sets.
This exceptional restoration enhances the richness and clarity of Adrian Maben’s film, preserving the authenticity and emotion of the original 1972 version.
