A temporary halt due to European regulations

On March 18, 2025, Sony ceased distribution of its projectors in Europe, due to changes in export control regulations and trade restrictions within the European Union. In particular, this measure concerned the Sony Bravia Projector 9 (VPL-XW8100) and the Sony Bravia Projector 8 (VPL-XW6100), which we had the opportunity to test on the blog at the time of its release.

Distribution authorized since May 20, 2025

Now that the regulatory context has changed for the better, Sony is pleased to announce that changes to the current regulations mean that it can now resume supplying these projectors to the European market.

“We’re delighted to be able to resume delivery of our projectors, including our latest BRAVIA Projector 8 and BRAVIA Projector 9 home theater models, across Europe, and we’re looking forward to launching the BRAVIA Projector 7 this summer,” comments Rik Willemse, Head of Professional Solutions and Displays at Sony Europe. “These products remained available in other regions, and we are now concentrating on satisfying European customer demand as quickly as possible. We’re delighted to be back, and appreciate the continued understanding and support of our partners and customers. .

New BRAVIA Projector 7 announced

In parallel with this takeover, Sony also confirms the launch in Europe of its new Sony BRAVIA Projector 7 model (VPL-XW5100ES). This will complete the brand’s 4K projector catalog on the European market from August 2025.
Featuring the XR projector processor and high-brightness laser technology, it offers the following features: XR Dynamic Tone Mapping, Deep Black, TRILUMINOS PRO and Clear Image for rich contrast, vibrant colors and 4K upscaling.

With IMAX Enhanced compatibility and a 2,200 lumen laser light source in a compact design, the Sony BRAVIA Projector 7 (VPL-XW5100ES) guarantees vivid images and low-latency 4K 120fps gaming. The new projector will retail for €6,999.

Summary
