During the 2025 Paris Audio Video Show Meze Audio unveiled the 99 Classics 2nd Gen hi-fi headphones, a modernized version of its iconic model launched in 2015. This new edition retains the warm, handcrafted aesthetic for which its predecessor is renowned, while incorporating acoustic and technical improvements.

Numerous improvements
The Meze Audio 99 Classics 2nd Gen headphones benefit from several major evolutions. The Romanian brand has refined the sound signature to offer a more balanced and neutral response, with controlled bass allowing the midrange and highs to unfold with greater clarity. In addition, a new advanced calibration algorithm reduces disparities between the two transducers, guaranteeing more accurate stereo imaging and a consistent listening experience.
The interior of the headphones’ iconic wooden shells has been slightly enlarged to optimize resonance and offer better bass control while providing more space around the ears. This evolution is accompanied by a new six-point clip attachment system for the ear pads, guaranteeing a stable position and making them easier to replace.

For this second generation, Meze has thoroughly revised the headphones’ internal acoustic system. The grille, now more open, and the redesigned reinforcements promote a smoother sound diffusion, limiting diffraction and high-frequency artifacts. In addition, the sealing has been optimized at strategic points on the headphones, thanks in particular to the addition of a specific port in the jack connector, improving coherence between left and right channels as well as the precision of the bass reproduction.
Legendary design and comfort are preserved
Craftsmanship remains at the heart of this new version. Each pair of Meze Audio 99 Classics 2nd Generation headphones features CNC-machined walnut ear cups that are hand-polished, combined with a zinc alloy frame with a gold finish. The self-adjusting vegan leather headband and ear pads retain the renowned comfort of the first generation.

Connectors adapted to today’s uses
In keeping with the manufacturer’s evolutionary spirit, the diameter of the Meze Audio 99 Classics 2nd Gen’s input connectors has been enlarged to 7mm. This update enables it to accommodate a wide variety of cables, including those with larger mini-jack plugs. The headphones come with a 1.8m twisted, Kevlar-sheathed cable with OFC conductors, ensuring durability and signal integrity, a USB-C amp/DAC for compatibility with devices without headphone output, and a gold-plated 6.3mm adapter.

A sustainable approach
True to the manufacturer’s philosophy, this second generation focuses on repairability and durability. Every part of the Meze 99 Classics V2 hi-fi headphones, from the transducers to the cables, can be replaced, extending the product’s lifespan. What’s more, the packaging is made entirely of recyclable cardboard, with no plastic or foam, to reduce waste and limit environmental impact.
Summary
The new Meze Audio 99 Classics 2nd Gen hi-fi headphones continue the heritage of the original model, while incorporating technical and ergonomic refinements to meet today’s demands. Unveiled at the Paris Audio Video Show 2025, they mark a decade of evolution for one of the Romanian brand’s most iconic headphones. These headphones will be available from October 29, 2025 on Son-Vidéo.com, at a retail price of €349.
