It’s beautiful, original, and the quality is spot on. Also buy the tripod (gorgeous!) or the articulated base (beautiful and practical), which will make it easier to integrate into the room.

4K Blu-ray player: Panasonic DP-UB820

4K Blu-ray player: Panasonic DP-UB820 product view
  • HDR10+, Dolby Vision compatible
  • HCX processor (Hollywood Cinema Experience)
  • Dual HDMI output
  • DSD and Hi-Res Audio playback
  • Dolby Atmos/DTS:X compatible
  • Price: €449

I had owned an OPPO BDP103 EU Blu-ray player with Darbee processing for many years. Perfect for playing (upscaled) DVDs and Blu-rays on the 65″ TV in my living room, but having acquired a 4K projector, I wanted to buy a native player. I hesitated for a long time over the Panasonic DP-UB9000 model, before finally opting for the Panasonic DP-UB820, which was on special offer on Son-vidéo.com, having been told that the video section was very close, if not identical, between the two products, according to their advisor. Clearly, the product is more “conventional” than its big brother or even the Oppo, but the finish remains very good for this price range. Once set up, which isn’t too complicated to do, I appreciated the dual HDMI output for transmitting live video to the projector and sound to the AV receiver. Now to the results. I can’t compare it with any other native 4K players, but I enjoy watching recent 4K films and, more importantly, older Blu-rays and DVDs. Once again, the Panasonic HCX processing works wonders. As for the sound, the 7.1 is very pleasant (Home Ciné Vincent power amp and Klipsch speakers) and sufficient for a great experience. Only the remote control could be better designed (Panasonic what does better with its TV remotes), but admittedly, once you’ve started a film it’s less important. In short, I fully recommend this product.

Bookshelf speakers: Jean-Marie Reynaud Bliss Jubilé + Magic Stand II

Bookshelf speakers: Jean-Marie Reynaud Bliss Jubilé + Magic Stand II product view
  • 6.7″ midbass driver
  • 1.1″ silk dome tweeter
  • Sensitivity: 88 dB / 1W / 1m
  • Frequency response: 40Hz to 25kHz
  • High-end stand
  • Price: €2,390

Outstanding! These speakers are incredible quality. They provide a faithful and detailed reproduction, and they soon fade into the background… However, they are uncompromising with poor quality recordings. They’re unforgiving, but give back a hundredfold on good tracks. By the way, with these I have: a REGA BRIO MK7 amplifier and 3DLAD SONATA PLAYER V5 source. The white finish is magnificent… it reflects the colors of the environment. The speakers blend seamlessly into the room. The stands are pre-assembled, so it only takes two minutes to put them together. Well done JMR… and thank you!

Power amplifier: Tonewinner AD 2500 PRO

Tonewinner AD 2500 PRO product view
  • RCA and XLR inputs
  • 2 x 500W RMS into 8 ohms
  • Needle VU meter
  • Overvoltage, overheating, overload, overcurrent and short-circuit protection
  • Toroidal transformer
  • Price: €1,790

I fell in love with it visually. It has a splendid build quality, and is very heavy. I’ve paired it with a FiiO S15 and Sonus Faber Sonetto 2 and the sound is really very good, almost perfect with some tracks. Naturally, if the recording isn’t good, it isn’t forgiving. Having previously used a 2x125w Sonos amp, I appreciate the difference in the precision of the vocals and improved bass management. In my opinion, the value for money is unbeatable.

Power conditioner: Audioquest PowerQuest 3

Audioquest PowerQuest 3 product view
  • 8 mains sockets
  • Ethernet inputs/outputs
  • Surge protection
  • Maximum overvoltage: 6000V
  • 4 USB charging ports (5V/2.4A)
  • Price: €399

Purchased recently, after a few hours of listening, I rediscovered CDs that I otherwise knew very well. There’s more clarity overall, the musicians sound closer in my room. The midrange and highs are more present, to the detriment of the bass, which I have to accentuate a little, although I suppose that also depends on your HI-FI system and your listening room. For TV, I haven’t noticed any difference… However, there is no polarity indicator other than a curved line at the bottom of each socket (bottom does not mean right or left), but you can easily find the phase direction with a test screwdriver, so it’s not a big problem. I am therefore satisfied with my purchase because my primary goal was to protect my HI-FI system from electrical damage, so you can buy it with confidence.

Hi-fi cartridge: Audio-Technica AT-VM95ML

Audio-Technica AT-VM95ML hi-fi cartridge
  • Moving magnet cartridge with VM Dual Magnet technology
  • Microlinear stylus
  • Conical aluminum cantilever
  • Frequency response from 20Hz to 25kHz
  • Para-toroidal copper coils
  • Price: €169

It’s a little tricky to connect, but with patience and by reading the manual carefully, the cartridge is properly positioned on the stylus and the sound quality is… well, what can I say? It’s like night and day: deep bass, a stylus that’s much more durable than the one on the AT-LP120XBTUSB! Sure, the price is high, but elliptical and conical styli won’t last 1,000 hours like the microlinear one.

Hi-fi headphones: FiiO FT7

FiiO FT7
  • Open-back design
  • 106mm Planar-Magnetic transducers
  • Frequency response from 5Hz to 40kHz
  • Membrane with 24k gold and silver coating
  • Two pairs of pads: imitation leather and velvet
  • Price: €749

As someone who already uses excellent headphones (GradoRS2i, Focal Clear OG), I have to say that with this FiiO, the jump in quality is remarkable. These headphones have it all: natural sound, transparency, neutrality; the bass is astonishingly deep and distinctive; the midrange is crystal clear and analytical (choirs, which are often reproduced in a somewhat muddled way, are wonderfully precise here), the highs are clear—too clear for some—and detailed, and the layering in terms of depth is impressive. Perfection? At the very least, an exciting approach to authentic musicality.

True wireless earbuds: Nothing Ear (a)

Nothing Ear (a)
  • ANC
  • Transparency mode
  • LDAC Bluetooth
  • IP54 certification (water and dust resistant)
  • Customizable equalizer in the app
  • Price: €89

Be sure to use the right ear tips (3 pairs are provided) so that they fit the shape of your ear properly—it makes all the difference. The battery lasts a whole working day without any problems, and they recharge very quickly. As a big fan of electronic music, I think the sound quality is excellent. When it comes to calls, I can communicate while working, wearing a hoodie and a ventilated helmet, without any problems. The pinch touch controls are a little complicated, but hey, let’s not get nitpicky. As far as I’m concerned, these earbuds are pretty much flawless.
