The Beyerdynamic DT 770 headphones have been with me every day for a long time. I use them to produce music, for video editing and for most other daily needs, such as listening to music. These Beyer DT770 headphones have become my main tool for all these activities, because they offer a neutrality that suits both entertainment and creation. Over time, however, I felt a need for greater comfort, as the leatherette earpads weren’t really suited to my long listening sessions. So I started looking for a solution to improve my experience.

Premium packaging designed to last
The product is presented with care from the moment it is opened. The two pads come in a rigid cardboard box that looks sturdy and effectively protects the contents. The magnetic closure adds a premium touch, enabling the box to be resealed for future use, especially if you wish to keep the old ear pads. A small warranty card is also included.
Why did I change the earpads on my Beyerdynamic DT 770 headphones?
The leatherette pads of the Beyerdynamic DT 770 headphones tended to rub against the temples of my glasses, generating unwanted noise. This was sometimes annoying, especially when I was working on precise passages during music production, where every sonic detail counts. The leatherette’s contact with my skin wasn’t always pleasant over time, and ended up distracting me. I needed a material that didn’t make any noise and remained pleasant even after several hours.
I tested Beyerdynamic’s velvet ear pads, which are already known to be more comfortable than leatherette ones. The feel is pleasant and the ventilation enhances the experience a little, but it wasn’t quite what I was looking for. I needed a material that would hug the shape of the glasses better. I also wanted something that would provide a better balance between softness and support, so that the headphones would remain pleasant even during particularly long sessions.

Dekoni Audio earpads for Beyerdynamic DT770 / DT880 / DT990 / AKG K Series: suede finish and memory foam
The Dekoni Audio earpads immediately surprised me with the softness of suede. It’s a very pleasant material that avoids the rough feel of traditional velvet, while offering a warm, stable texture. For me, this suede-like suede represents an excellent alternative to Beyerdynamic’s velvet, as it provides superior comfort without creating an uncomfortable warming sensation. A simple touch is enough to understand that this is a product designed for long-lasting comfort.
The great strength of these pads, however, lies in the memory foam used by Dekoni Audio. It moulds perfectly to the head and glasses, radically changing the feeling of pressure. The headphones feel more secure and generate fewer unpleasant pressure points. Thanks to the structure of the suede and foam, the friction noise caused by the leatherette has completely disappeared. I can move my head slightly or reposition my glasses without hearing any rubbing.

A slight change in sound produced by the suede finish
In terms of sound, the differences are relatively discreet. The most striking difference concerns the bass, which gains presence and fullness. The manufacturer states as much on its website, and I noticed the same thing within the first few minutes. Low frequencies sound slightly fuller, which makes music a little more pleasant, without detracting from monitoring work. This sensation is measured and does not transform the overall balance of the headphones.
There is a slight attenuation in the mids and highs, but you really have to strain your ear to notice it. I admit that I’m nitpicking a bit on this point, because the difference is minimal and doesn’t impact my work in music production or video editing. Overall, the DT 770 retain their neutrality, making them reliable and precise headphones. Bass is more generous, while remaining sufficiently controlled not to unbalance the listening experience.

These Dekoni Audio earpads really transformed my experience with the Beyerdynamic DT 770. Comfort reached a level that I hadn’t been able to achieve with either the original pads or the brand’s velvet ones. Friction has completely disappeared, the material remains pleasant for several hours and the sound signature remains true to what I like about these headphones. For such a simple accessory, the everyday benefits are considerable, and I couldn’t go back now.
