Focal has launched its latest range of hi-fi and home cinema speakers. Baptized the Focal Chorus 600 Series, the range is composed of a compact speaker, a floorstanding speaker and a center channel speaker. The Focal Chorus 605, Focal Chorus 615 and Focal Chorus CC600 speakers are 2-way models equipped with the brand’s in-house drivers. Each of these speakers is manufactured in France and benefits from a host of Focal’s proprietary technologies. The low-mid drivers are fitted with Polyglass diaphragms which feature a flexible surround and a central bullet plug. Polyglass diaphragms combine cellulose and glass micro-beads to offer a particularly high level of rigidity, superior even to that of Kevlar. Lightweight, these diaphragms ensure excellent performance in the mids.
The tweeters, Focal’s specialty, are inverted dome models composed of aluminum and magnesium. The domes are mounted on a poron surround in order to lower their resonant frequency. The passive crossover filters installed in the Focal Chorus 600 Series speakers are made of high-quality components.
The smallest member of the Focal Chorus 600 family, the Focal Chorus 605 is a compact 2-way model with a 5? Polyglass driver and a 1? TNV2 Al/Mg tweeter. Additional characteristics of the Focal Chorus 605 include a frequency response of approximately 65 Hz – 28 Hz, a sensitivity rating of 91 dB/W/m, a height of just under 12.5?, and a front-firing bass-reflex port.
The Focal Chorus 615 is a compact, 2-way floorstanding speaker which is 35? tall and features a pair of 5? Polyglass low-mid drivers and a large front-firing bass-reflex port. Its tweeter is identical to that of the Focal Chorus 605. Its frequency response is approximately 52 Hz – 28 kHz, for a sensitivity rating of 91 db/W/m.
Completing the family, the Focal Chorus CC600 center speaker features the same drivers as the floorstanding model but adopts a sealed enclosure design. Its frequency response is approximately 61 Hz – 28 kHz, for a sensitivity rating of 91 db/W/m.
