TCL, a world-renowned brand in consumer electronics and the world’s second-largest TV manufacturer, also stands out for its eco-responsible measures. Its ESG 2022 report reveals several advances in sustainable development, while the TCL Green project and Carbon Neutrality White Paper demonstrate its commitment to a greener future.
TCL: environmentally friendly packaging
In its ESG 2022 report, TV and soundbar manufacturer TCL has unveiled its advances in eco-responsibility. Like many brands adopting sustainable packaging, TCL is focusing on developing more environmentally-friendly electronics and packaging. It follows in the footsteps of many manufacturers, such as Samsung and its cardboard packaging that can be recycled to make a cat house!
To reduce the ecological impact of its packaging, TCL favors materials that are light, safe, renewable and durable. In 2022, the Chinese company developed a honeycomb packaging solution. This made it possible to reduce the thickness of the material, while improving the protection of goods and reducing the consumption of plastic materials.
In addition, by reducing the size of packaging boxes and the number of pages in user manuals, TCL has been able to reduce the load on containers and, consequently, the greenhouse gas emissions associated with their transport. These efforts are part of the company’s global strategy, which includes ambitious targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and non-recyclable plastics.
TCL Green: sustainable art wins award
The innovative sustainable art installation TCL Green has won the prestigious Golden A’ Design Award for Circular Economy and Regenerative Design Category 2022-2023. Created in collaboration with artist Kevin Chu, TCL Green illustrates TCL’s commitment to saving the environment through the recycling of electronic components. This unique work of art is made up of over 1,000 used electronic boards supplied by the manufacturer. It combines different artistic trends and is powered by solar panels to light up, highlighting both its sustainability and technological innovations. This artistic and environmental initiative underlines the manufacturer’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, while inspiring other industry players to commit to a global approach for sustainable development.
TCL: carbon commitments
At the TCL 2023 Global Ecosystem Partner Conference, the manufacturer presented its White Paper on carbon neutrality. An opportunity to lay out its ambitious objectives in terms of carbon impact and sustainability.
The world’s second-largest TV manufacturer has pledged to achieve carbon neutrality in its operating activities by 2050. A three-stage plan has been drawn up to investigate carbon emissions, arrive at peak emissions in 2030, and achieve carbon neutrality in 2050.
In addition, TCL seeks to optimize energy efficiency with low-carbon changes in its factories and operating centers, and urges its partners to do the same. The brand also encourages collaboration between supply chain players and society as a whole, with the aim of creating a cleaner industrial ecosystem with zero CO² emissions.
TCL aims to be an exemplary brand in the field of eco-responsibility thanks to its concrete actions. This includes the adoption of environmentally-friendly packaging and ambitious carbon commitments, embodied in the TCL Green sustainable art installation.
