The PlayStation Access is a highly customizable controller kit designed for gamers with disabilities. This latest-generation controller is capable of adapting to all people with reduced mobility, offering a very wide range of possibilities. Sony is following in the footsteps of Microsoft, which has offered the Xbox Adaptive Controller since 2018. This new Sony PlayStation device addresses a shortcoming on the PS5, opening up gaming to everyone.

A highly customizable controller
Designed to offer a wide range of possibilities, the PlayStation Access controller comes with a host of accessories. Eight buttons can be interchanged and customized. Depending on requirements, convex, flat, concave, overhanging and wide buttons can be used.
The software built into the PlayStation 5 Slim lets you configure the actions of each of these buttons. The console immediately recognizes the PlayStation Access controller, and gives access to simple configuration thanks to the ergonomic interface of Prospero OS, the console’s operating system.
PlayStation has thought of everything, as it is possible to choose the pictogram for each button, to make the controller easier to use. The small icons call also be customized depending on the setup. Nineteen caps are included in the kit and feature all the symbols found on the DualSense controller.

An adjustable and customizable joystick
The PlayStation Access features a very convenient joystick that can be personalized. The kit includes an arcade ball, a classic dome and a wide dome. Once again, the controller can be adapted to the player’s needs. The large amplitude of the stick is pleasant and offers real precision that rivals that of the DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers. Sensitivity can also be adjusted via the software.
The joystick is adjustable and can be placed closer or further away from the buttons. The “Lock” button locks the position, for greater stability. The “Profile” button lets you load up to three different set-ups, which can also be configured on the PlayStation 5. Details that make PlayStation Access even more accessible.

Infinite possibilities
The kit supplied with PlayStation Access is very exhaustive, but it’s possible to go even further. The controller also features four 3.5mm mini-jack ports, enabling customized accessories to be connected. Associations such as HandiGamers and CapGame are doing great work in this area, and can help disabled people to find practical solutions.
It’s entirely possible to create custom accessories that can be 3D printed, for example, and connected via these jack ports. The possibilities are numerous, and this accessible controller opens up gaming to even more players. As a complement to or replacement for the DualSense controller, PlayStation Access offers multiple solutions for all those who would like to enjoy the excellent PlayStation 5 exclusive games.
Using two PlayStation Access controllers at the same time also makes it possible to cater for all kinds of situations. Some players, for example, can use their feet for certain actions. Pairing with a DualSense is also an option, to extend the possibilities even further or to add a second player.

Design and build quality
The PlayStation Access controller stands out from the competition thanks to its design. Rather compact, it measures 20cm in diameter. Unlike Microsoft’s solution, it’s easier to carry around, so you can take it with you in your bag to friends’ houses.
Its look is very appealing and matches all PlayStation ecosystem accessories perfectly. Another bonus compared to the competition. PlayStation has come up with a controller that is practical, useful and stylish. It also benefits from a level of manufacturing quality that is on a par with what the brand already offers.
Last but not least, even the pricing of the PlayStation Access is accessible, as it is available for under €80.
