Panasonic TV-65Z95B OLED TV

65'' Panasonic Z95B OLED television in a very bright living room.
  • Technology: 4K OLED/Primary RGB Tandem OLED with ThermalFlow
  • 4K Ultra HD resolution 3,840 x 2,160 pixels
  • Refresh rate: up to 144Hz
  • Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10+ Adaptive
  • 170W audio output
  • Dolby Atmos compatible
  • 4 x HDMI 2.1
  • Price: €3,889

I had the opportunity to test the three models with the tandem RGB panel (LG G5, Philips 910+ and the Z95B) and the difference between the three is quite obvious. The G5 is strong regarding Dolby Vision, but not so much in HDR, the Philips is calibrated for HDR10+, and the Panasonic combines the two. It has incredible brightness in Dolby Vision, and the processor does an excellent job. For UHD Blu-ray viewing in Dolby Vision connected to a player that allows 12-bit YCbCr 4.4.4 bandwidth, the image is, so far, the best there is.

Argon Audio Fenris Active A5 wireless hi-fi speakers

Argon Audio Fenris Active A5 wireless hi-fi speaker in walnut finish
  • 2-way active speakers
  • 2 x 75W amplification power
  • 0.75″ tweeter + 5″ paper-cone midbass driver
  • Bluetooth 5.0
  • HDMI ARC, phono, optical and auxiliary RCA inputs, Pre-Out RCA output
  • Remote control included
  • Price: €429 per pair

I installed them as soon as they arrived. First tests via Bluetooth and Phono: the sound reproduction is within my expectations, but I’m waiting for the break-in period to end to see if I should add a subwoofer. As for installation, it’s very straightforward, taking just 5 minutes including opening the box. As for functionality, all that’s missing is the ability to adjust the bass and treble.

WiiM Pro audio network player

The WiiM Pro network player received a positive review from a music lover on Son-Vidéo.com
  • Multi-room network player
  • AirPlay 2, Chromecast and Bluetooth compatible
  • Support for Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri
  • 24 preset equalization settings and 10-band equalizer
  • Hi-Res Audio certified
  • RCA and optical inputs + RCA, optical, coaxial and trigger outputs
  • Price: €139

For my use, it’s exactly what I needed. Until now, I’ve been using my Mac and a high-performance DAC with Audirvana. I ended up finding this restrictive. I’d tried Octavio, but it lacked the ability to adjust the sound to my liking (no equalizer, something Audirvana offers). The Wiim Pro gave me what I was looking for, thanks to a superb app. The ability to calibrate according to the room is a real plus. I can easily juggle between Qobuz and my favorite radio stations, which is great! The equalizer is a real plus for me. At the age of 80, I have hearing loss in the high frequencies (4000Hz), and the equalizer provides the necessary correction. Since I use my DAC, the sound quality is always superb, and my Naim amp works wonders. I recommend this product if you have a quality external DAC.

ViewSonic LS740HD projector

ViewSonic LS740HD with 30,000-hour laser lamp
  • 1080p Full HD
  • 30,000-hour laser lamp
  • High brightness (5000 ANSI lumens)
  • Picture size: 30″ (76.2cm) – 300″ (7.62m)
  • 1.3x zoom and keystone correction
  • 2 HDMI inputs
  • Price: €1,290

I use it as a living-room screen to watch TV, play console games, share my computer screen and, above all… watch movies with my family. So what I was looking for, for my budget, was above all a very nice picture and lots of light, because I didn’t want to have to close the curtains or shutters all the time. I also wanted laser technology so I wouldn’t have to change the lamp after 4 or 5000 hours (about 1 year of use in our house). With 5000 ANSI Lumens and a third-generation phosphor laser… I get a basic lifespan of 30,000 hours without having to change anything, and I can confirm: it’s very bright, the images are magnificent, the contrast is incredible: it’s a real pleasure. It’s simply marvellous, and as a family, it’s exactly what we wanted.

HiFiMAN HE-1000 V4 Stealth Magnet hi-fi headphones

HiFiMAN HE-1000 V4 Stealth Magnet
  • Open-back headphones
  • Magnetic planar transducers with Stealth magnetic motors
  • Impedance: 32 ohms
  • Sensitivity: 93 dB @ 1kHz / 1mW
  • Frequency response: 8 – 65,000Hz
  • Leather ear pads and headband
  • Weight: 480g
  • Price: €1,219

A lifelong music lover, I received these headphones as a gift for my 60th birthday. The quality and design are impeccable: leather, aluminum, wood. These headphones exude luxury and high-end like an old Jaguar from the 70s! They fully envelop the ears and are very comfortable. I can listen for over an hour without any discomfort. I was immediately surprised by the listening experience. Everything is magnified: very deep bass, chiseled highs, and a very present midrange; vocals are incredibly realistic. Far superior to other headphones I’ve tested in the same price range. In short, even if my ears aren’t what they used to be, these headphones transport me like no other music source ever has! I’d recommend them without reservation. Treat yourself!

I bought this amp as much for its looks as for its sound qualities, and it suits me perfectly. It’s a magnificent object, which I really enjoy having near me and using, and I think that’s the most important thing.

Bowers & Wilkins 705 S3 bookshelf speakers

Bowers & Wilkins 705 S3 wood finish
  • 2-way speakers
  • Nautilus-loaded 1″ carbon dome tweeter
  • 6.5″ Continuum cone midbass driver
  • 120W RMS power handling at 8 ohms
  • Frequency response (-6 dB): 45Hz to 33kHz
  • Sensitivity: 88 dB /1W /1m
  • Price: €3,200 per pair

These 705 S3s are characterized, among other things, by their exceptional transparency. Placed on either side of a 139cm diagonal flat screen, it’s easy to forget that they’re working in place of the TV’s built-in audio equipment. Not that these speakers don’t add something – quite the opposite, in fact – but you feel this “invisible diffusion”, dare I say, like an acoustic illusion that can be verified with the presenters’ voices, which always seem to emerge solely from the screen, even when moving away from it to the right or left. In conclusion, the English company BW has produced a masterpiece of musicality and value for money.

iBasso DX340 DAP

iBasso DX340 DAP
  • Android 13 + Mango OS operating system
  • WiFi and Bluetooth
  • 6 AMOLED touch screen, 2160 x 1080 pixels
  • Micro SD card reader
  • 8GB RAM
  • 32-bit/768kHz and DSD playback
  • Balanced and unbalanced outputs
  • Price: €1,690

It’s paired with my DC Aeon headphones. I also have the Audeze LCD2. The 340 DX is elegant, with a beautiful design and finish. The sound is natural and spacious, with excellent precision and resolution. The thumbwheel is smooth and precise for adjusting the sound. There are five filters to suit your taste. I chose the H2. Battery life is 6 to 7 hours in high-gain mode. Super gain adds improves the sound quality. WiFi reception is good. The possibility of changing the amplification card is a plus for its modularity and the product’s longevity. In conclusion, I’m entirely satisfied with this DAP, despite the very sensitive buttons on the right-hand side, which cause unexpected track changes when pressed. It’s a risk-free purchase in terms of sound quality, provided you use headphones or earbuds of the same quality.
