Luxsin X8: a new intelligent headphone DAC with 8 audio cores

Announced at the beginning of 2026, the Luxsin X8 marks a strategic evolution for Luxsin Audio. After its first notable model, the Luxsin X9, the young brand from the team behind Eversolo continues to make its mark in the field of audiophile headphone amplifiers. But rather than seeking to dethrone its own flagship, the X8 introduces a different approach, focusing on a new internal architecture and integrated digital processing tools. What can we expect from this new product?

8-DAC architecture for balanced, isolated processing

The Luxsin X8 is based on eight Cirrus Logic CS43198 chips, distributed in a dual-mono configuration: four DACs operate in parallel for each channel. This allows balanced processing, with complete isolation between left and right channels in terms of power supply, circuit layout and signal path.

Parallel analog outputs are precisely summed to reduce noise, improve signal-to-noise ratio, dynamic range, and reproduction of low-level detail. This structure contributes to a stable sound image and clear spatial presentation.

A proprietary digital processing module

The Digital Audio Core embedded in the X8 is a custom-designed module from Luxsin. It is based on a dual-core HiFi-5 DSP + ARM STAR architecture, with on-board SRAM and an operating frequency in excess of 500MHz. This processing provides the power required for advanced real-time audio tuning algorithms. The system is designed to evolve over time to support additional functions, including local edge-level AI-based processing.

AI-assisted PEQ equalization

The Luxsin X8 introduces an AI-assisted customizable equalization system, presented as a world first. This PEQ (parametric equalizer) allows you to customize the sound globally or specific details, using voice or text commands via the mobile app or a web interface on a computer.

The mobile app lets you fine-tune headphone equalization, with support for AI controls, graphic display, and the management of saved profiles.

This system aims to make advanced audio settings accessible without technical expertise, by automating adjustments. It is available in multiple languages, and profiles are saved per output.

Powerful, versatile amplification

The X8 uses an optimized amplifier topology, based on multiple OPA1612 operational amplifiers and high-current TPA6120A2 drivers, with separate power supplies for analog and digital circuits. It delivers a high output, reaching up to 4,840mW per channel into 16Ω via the balanced outputs (XLR4 and 4.4mm Pentaconn), and 2,900mW per channel on the 6.35mm jack output. All with extremely low distortion (THD+N < -117 dB) and an output impedance of less than 1 ohm.

The impedance auto-detection works on all headphones outputs, with a bypass system isolated from the audio path. It automatically adjusts gain for optimal pairing without compromising sound quality.

Controls, connectors and design

The control interface features a 4″ color touchscreen (960 × 480px), tilted at 15° angle for improved legibility on a desk. The chassis uses CNC-machined aluminum, with a meticulous finish and optimized heat dissipation.

The X8 has numerous control options: mobile app (iOS/Android), web interface (Windows/macOS), and infrared remote control (optional). Firmware is updated locally or online, enabling continuous improvements.

The connectors are also comprehensive:

  • Digital inputs: USB-B, USB-C, HDMI I2S (8 possible configurations), coaxial, optical
  • Headphone outputs: XLR4, 4.4mm, 6.35mm
  • Line outputs: XLR and RCA
  • 12V Trigger in/out for integration in home automation or hi-fi systems

The Luxsin X8 features three front-mounted headphone outputs (XLR4, 4.4mm, 6.35mm), a touchscreen, and full digital and analog inputs/outputs on the rear panel.

Luxsin X9 and X9: two complementary approaches

The Luxsin X8 is not a replacement for the X9, but an alternative. The X9, released in 2025, adopts a more classic approach, based on an AKM AK4499EX chip with an AK4191EQ modulator, for a particularly dynamic restitution and minimal distortion (THD+N -120 dB). It also offers superior power handling, up to 6,000mW into 16Ω.

The X8, on the other hand, favors a parallel multi-DAC architecture, more advanced digital processing with its Digital Audio Core, and extensive software integration, notably via AI-assisted PEQ. It offers slightly less power, but is still capable of driving demanding headphones. In terms of positioning, it is also more affordable, with a price announced at $699.
