Our expert’s opinion
The Hisense 65UR9S won me over with its ability to combine innovation and versatility. Its RGB Mini LED technology delivers a colorful, bright, and pleasant picture, while its anti-glare treatment is among the most effective I’ve seen on an LCD TV. This quality is particularly noticeable in brightly lit rooms, where viewing comfort remains excellent. I also appreciated the smoothness of the picture, whether for sports broadcasts or video games, as well as the overall quality of the Devialet-optimized audio system. Admittedly, the Atmos and surround sound effects could be more intense, and blooming isn’t entirely absent during the most demanding scenes. However, these minor drawbacks pale in comparison to the TV’s overall performance, which makes it an excellent alternative to OLED models for users seeking a spectacular picture at any time of day.

As Hisense’s first commercially available RGB Mini LED TV, the 65UR9S marks the arrival of a technology poised to play a major role in the evolution of high-end LCD TVs. With promises of richer colors, high brightness, enhanced contrast, and advanced anti-glare technology, this TV certainly piques curiosity. We put it to the test to see how it truly stacks up against the current market leaders.
Introduction to the Hisense 65UR9S
The Hisense 65UR9S TV ushers in a new generation of display technology with RGB Mini LED, which replaces traditional white backlighting with red, green, and blue mini LEDs. This approach promises richer and more accurate color reproduction, as well as better control over brightness and contrast. Combined with a local dimming system, high brightness, and extensive coverage of the BT.2020 color space, this 4K panel aims to deliver a particularly dynamic picture for both movies and sports.
The Hisense 65UR9S also features advanced video processing powered by the Hi-View AI Engine RGB processor and supports major HDR formats, including Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+ Adaptive, and IMAX Enhanced. Its matte, anti-glare panel minimizes distracting reflections for a more comfortable viewing experience in bright environments. Gamers, meanwhile, benefit from a high native refresh rate, a dedicated low-latency gaming mode, and FreeSync Premium Pro compatibility, while the audio system—developed in collaboration with Devialet and Dolby Atmos-compatible—is designed to enhance immersion without requiring an external sound system.

The Hisense 65UR9S comes with everything you need for quick setup. Inside the box, you’ll find a rechargeable remote control that can be powered either by its built-in solar panel or via USB—a convenient solution that eliminates the need to replace batteries regularly. The TV comes with a two-piece center stand and all the necessary mounting hardware, as well as a power cord that’s approximately two meters long, offering some flexibility during installation. The package is simple, functional, and consistent with the TV’s premium positioning.
Test conditions
I tested the Hisense 65UR9S in the Son-Vidéo.com editorial team’s test room, an environment deliberately designed to be challenging for televisions. In particular, the room is lit by several powerful LED spotlights capable of causing significant glare on the most sensitive screens. This setup allowed me to truly appreciate the effectiveness of the Hisense 65UR9S’s anti-glare treatment and matte panel under conditions similar to those of a brightly lit living room.

For my tests, I used a Magnetar UDP800 4K Blu-ray player connected to the TV via an AudioQuest HDMI cable. Video performance was evaluated using the Spears & Munsil UHD Benchmark Blu-ray disc as well as several reference films, including Mad Max: Fury Road, 1917, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in Ultra HD 4K. The gaming performance was tested on the Nintendo Switch with Mario Kart to evaluate the TV’s smoothness, responsiveness, and overall performance during gameplay.
📝 Tips from the experts
The Hisense 65UR9S is one of the few high-end TVs I would recommend without hesitation for use in a very bright room. Its matte panel and anti-glare coating prove particularly effective in situations where many glossy OLED or Mini LED screens struggle. For movies and TV shows, the Cinema and Filmmaker modes let you fully enjoy the qualities of Mini LED RGB technology, with rich, nuanced, and natural colors. Gamers, meanwhile, can take full advantage of the panel’s capabilities by making sure to enable Game mode to enjoy the best possible responsiveness.
My impressions
A minimalist design intended for seamless integration
The Hisense 65UR9S features a relatively understated design that is meant to blend seamlessly into the living room. When viewed from the front, the bezel doesn’t particularly try to disappear and retains visible black borders around the screen. A gray brushed aluminum strip runs along the bottom of the screen, featuring the Hisense logo in the center and the words “Tuned by Devialet” on the right, highlighting the attention to detail in the audio section.
The chassis has a uniform thickness of approximately 4.5 cm across its entire surface. This design choice was partly driven by the integration of the 4.1.2-channel audio system, whose drivers are distributed along the sides, the back, and the top of the TV. Despite this design—which is thicker than that of some competing models—the TV has balanced proportions and an elegant appearance.
I also appreciated the center stand, which greatly simplifies setup. Unlike TVs with side feet, the Hisense 65UR9S can be placed on most TV stands without any specific width restrictions. Two cable ducts discreetly integrated into the back of the base also allow cables to be routed, ensuring a neat installation. Finally, VESA 400 x 400 mm compatibility makes it easy to mount the TV on the wall if desired.
Modern and versatile connectors
The Hisense 65UR9S features a comprehensive set of connectivity options designed specifically for today’s uses. It features three HDMI 2.1 inputs compatible with eARC, ALLM, and VRR, allowing you to take full advantage of the capabilities of the latest-generation game consoles or a gaming PC. Two USB ports, an optical audio output, an Ethernet port, and connectors for DTTV, cable, and satellite TV round out the features.
Most of the connectors are grouped on the rear right side of the TV and face outward. This layout is convenient for wall mounting, although you’ll need to use cables that are flexible enough to be easily routed to the central stand. The power cord, meanwhile, is located on the back left side of the screen.

I also appreciated the inclusion of a DisplayPort 1.4-compatible USB-C port on the side of the TV. Still a rarity on this type of product, it allows you to connect a compatible laptop and is a real plus for gamers or users who want to use the TV as a large screen for work or entertainment.
A full-featured, rechargeable remote control
Like the brand’s previous high-end TVs, the Hisense 65UR9S comes with a particularly feature-rich remote control. Its size stands in contrast to the current trend toward increasingly compact and streamlined models.
One reason for its generous size is the full numeric keypad located at the bottom. Next to it is a solar panel designed to recharge the built-in battery. It’s an excellent idea—both practical and eco-friendly—that eliminates the need to regularly replace batteries while reducing the waste generated by their use.
The layout of the controls is clear and well-organized. The top section includes the power button, source selection buttons, and shortcuts to the major streaming platforms. In the center, the directional pad is surrounded by the usual navigation controls, while the volume controls and channel selection buttons remain easily accessible.
Despite its imposing size, it feels comfortable to hold, and the buttons provide good feedback. I quickly got the hang of it during my test, both for navigating the menus and for accessing the various streaming sources and apps. The design clearly prioritizes practicality over minimalism.
VIDAA U9: a smooth and comprehensive Smart TV experience
The Hisense 65UR9S features the latest version of the brand’s proprietary interface, VIDAA U9. In everyday use, I appreciated its smooth navigation and intuitive user experience. The menus respond quickly, and the overall layout makes it easy to access various sources, settings, and apps.

The app ecosystem is particularly comprehensive. It includes the major streaming platforms—such as Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV+, and Canal+—as well as apps from major French broadcasters like TF1+, France TV, Arte, and Molotov. Subscribers to the major Internet service providers aren’t left out either, with apps from Orange TV, SFR TV, and Free TV also available.
The TV also supports AirPlay 2 as well as screen-sharing features from a compatible smartphone, tablet, or computer. I also appreciated the integration of the Alexa and Vidaa Voice assistants, which let you play content, switch sources, or adjust certain settings using your voice.
While it doesn’t reinvent the wheel, VIDAA U9 is now a mature, responsive platform with enough features to meet most everyday smart device needs.
RGB Mini LED: a bright, colorful image that is resistant to glare
From the very first few minutes, what impressed me most about the Hisense 65UR9S was the effectiveness of its anti-glare coating. The combination of the matte panel and the coating applied by Hisense very effectively reduces unwanted glare. Despite the numerous LED lights in our test room, I was never bothered by their presence on the screen, even when watching dark scenes. This is a real advantage for users who watch TV in a brightly lit room or one with large windows.
This excellent legibility is complemented by exceptionally high brightness. The Hisense 65UR9S maintains a dynamic picture regardless of lighting conditions and is capable of accurately rendering details in the brightest areas of HDR content. Metallic reflections, lighting effects and even intense light sources create a striking visual impact without masking the surrounding shades.
RGB Mini LED technology also delivers on its promises when it comes to color reproduction. With the Cinema and Filmmaker modes, I achieved a balanced, natural, and richly nuanced picture. Dolby Vision content, in particular, benefits from beautifully vivid colors, with subtle gradients and excellent saturation without being excessive. The desert landscapes of Mad Max: Fury Road and the vibrant worlds of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse are rendered with remarkable vibrancy.
The TV also performs well in terms of contrast. Blacks have great depth while still preserving a lot of detail in the dark areas of the image. I also noticed good backlight uniformity across the entire screen.
However, not everything is perfect. During some particularly demanding tests using the Spears & Munsil UHD Benchmark Blu-ray, I noticed some light halos around very bright objects displayed against a black background. This blooming effect was particularly noticeable on the Starfield test pattern as well as in certain static demonstration shots, such as the nighttime carnival scene with the Ferris wheel. In practice, this slight blooming never really stood out to me while watching movies. I mainly noticed it on certain particularly demanding test patterns designed to highlight the limitations of backlighting systems.
Finally, smoothness is another strong point of this model. Motion compensation is particularly effective and helps maintain a sharp image during fast tracking shots or action scenes. The camera movements in 1917 and the most action-packed sequences in Mad Max: Fury Road remained smooth and easy to follow, without producing any particularly distracting artifacts.
My recommended picture settings
To get the most out of the Hisense 65UR9S, I highly recommend using Cinema Mode and Filmmaker Mode. These settings provide the most faithful reproduction of content, with balanced colors, natural contrast, and image processing limited to what is strictly necessary.
During testing, these two modes proved particularly impressive for movies and TV shows, especially in HDR and Dolby Vision. They allow you to fully appreciate the work of cinematographers, with accurate colors, balanced contrast, and lighting that preserves the unique atmosphere of each production. As a result, I experienced a more natural and immersive picture than that offered by the more showy modes.
However, Standard mode remains a great choice for everyday use. Brighter and more dynamic, it’s ideal for TV shows, news programs, and sports broadcasts watched during the day in a well-lit room. It delivers an instantly appealing picture while taking full advantage of the TV’s high brightness and excellent anti-glare coating.
A TV designed for gaming
I used the Hisense 65UR9S with both a Nintendo Switch and a PlayStation 5. In both cases, the TV performed exceptionally well thanks to its excellent smoothness and responsiveness.
In Mario Kart, fast-paced action remains perfectly clear, and the vibrant colors fully enhance the gaming experience. With Gran Turismo 7 on PS5 at 120Hz 4K, the Hisense 65UR9S showcases the full potential of its display. Movement is extremely smooth, trajectories remain precise, and the image stays sharp even at very high speeds. This smoothness enhances the feeling of immersion and helps make driving more enjoyable and natural.
I also appreciated the TV’s rich colors and high brightness, which really bring out the vehicle designs, lighting effects, and the various environments you travel through. The anti-glare coating is also invaluable for playing during the day without being distracted by light sources in the room.
Discerning gamers also get all the features expected from a high-end model: VRR, ALLM, and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro compatibility, as well as HDMI 2.1 inputs capable of handling signals up to 4K at 180 Hz. It’s more than capable of handling both the latest-generation consoles and the most powerful PC setups with ease.
An ambitious audio system, but one with room for improvement
Unlike many TVs that make do with a minimalist audio setup, the Hisense 65UR9S features a 4.1.2-channel system developed in partnership with Devialet. This more sophisticated design delivers a compelling audio experience, with perfectly clear voices and good overall presence.
The soundstage features a well-defined stereo image that effectively complements movies, TV shows, and sporting events. The bass performance is also satisfactory for a TV. Impacts are well-defined, and the lower midrange provides a solid foundation for soundtracks. Unsurprisingly, however, the very low frequencies remain limited by the size of the built-in drivers.

The Hisense 65UR9S is Dolby Atmos-compatible and is also capable of reproducing perceptible vertical effects. However, they remain relatively subtle in both scope and intensity. The surround sound effects also feel more implied than truly immersive. The 65UR9S offers a greater sense of immersion compared to a conventional TV, though it doesn’t rival a dedicated home theater system.
However, Hisense offers a particularly interesting solution with its Hi-Concerto technology. The latter allows the TV’s drivers to be synchronized with certain soundbars and home theater systems from the brand. When paired with the Hisense HT Saturn wireless package, the TV can even actively contribute to the audio output, notably by providing the center channel dedicated to dialogue. This innovative approach enhances the audio experience while making the most of the built-in drivers.
For users seeking a deeply immersive audio experience, however, pairing the TV with a home theater system featuring a dedicated subwoofer remains the ideal solution. In this regard, the Hisense HT Saturn is a particularly well-suited complement to this TV’s capabilities.
Hisense 65UR9S vs. LG OLED65G5

Situated in a similar price range, the Hisense 65UR9S and LG OLED65G5 represent two different approaches to high-end televisions. The LG model capitalizes on the traditional strengths of OLED, with perfect blacks, infinite contrast, and remarkable image accuracy in dark scenes. Its Tandem OLED panel also allows it to achieve a particularly high level of HDR brightness for this technology.
For its part, the Hisense stands out for its RGB Mini LED technology and, above all, its impressive anti-glare treatment. In a brightly lit room, it offers superior viewing comfort by very effectively minimizing distracting glare. This makes it a particularly suitable choice for well-lit living rooms or large living spaces.
Both models will also appeal to gamers thanks to their high refresh rates, VRR compatibility, and advanced gaming features. The choice will therefore depend mainly on your viewing environment: the LG OLED65G5 remains the benchmark for cinema-style viewing in a dimly lit room, whilst the Hisense 65UR9S stands out as a particularly compelling alternative for enjoying a spectacular picture at any time of day.
Who is the Hisense 65UR9S designed for?

Finally, its well-designed audio system is an added bonus for those who want to enjoy high-quality sound without having to immediately add more equipment.
