Scratches on speakers, naps on heated amplifiers or fangs in cables – there’s no doubt that cats love our hi-fi equipment. It’s a love that a young British company is keen to share with our feline friends by introducing the Cat Scratch, the very first scratching turntable for cats.

Adopting all the aesthetic codes of a genuine DJ turntable, the Cat Scratch has a plastic chassis on which the turntable is replaced by a honeycombed cardboard model designed to accommodate our felines’ velvet paws. They can then sharpen their claws and pretend to be real DJs as they turn the platter and the tonearm. Cats love cardboard boxes, so you can’t go wrong with this turntable. Let’s just hope it doesn’t give them any bad ideas…

Why do cats scratch?

Cats sharpen their claws for several natural and instinctive reasons. Firstly, it allows them to look after their claws by removing the worn outer layer to make way for a new, sharper claw. But this behavior is more than just a matter of hygiene: it also plays an essential role in their mental well-being. By scratching, cats mark their territory both visually, thanks to the traces left behind, and by smell, thanks to the glands located between their pads which deposit pheromones. It’s a way for them to signal their presence and feel secure in their environment.

A scratching post is therefore a very useful accessory, as it provides the cat with a suitable object to satisfy this natural need, without damaging the furniture in the home. By offering them one or more scratching posts, you can help channel this behavior to a specific spot, while respecting their instincts. What’s more, the act of scratching allows the cat to stretch and build muscle, which contributes to good physical health. A well-chosen scratching post, placed in the right areas, contributes to a cat’s balance and comfort, while preserving its owners’ peace of mind.
