Focal Arts, the French brand’s new non-profit endowment fund, has set itself the mission of preserving and promoting traditional skills and craftsmanship by creating contemporary, multi-sensory works of art. Comprising a passionate team, Focal Arts aims to protect this essential intangible heritage.
Focal’s commitment to the arts extends far beyond its award-winning electronics, speakers, headphones and earphones, which are designed and manufactured in France. Recently, the French manufacturer was at the heart of the Odyssée Sonore: a unique immersive sound and light experience with its Focal Bathys headphones.
“Traditional expertise is a collection of techniques and gestures acquired over time, constituting a vital intangible heritage. Focal Arts is committed to preserving, promoting and defending this heritage”, states the organization in its press release.
Focal Arts – La Constellation d’Icare
The inaugural work, “La Constellation d’Icare” (The Constellation of Icarus), embodies this vision. It brings together French-Vietnamese painter Hom Nguyen, American composer Mark Yaeger, French perfumer Christophe Laudamiel and French liqueur brand H.Theoria, around a pair of leather-clad Focal Grande Utopia speakers.
“La Constellation d’Icare” goes beyond contemplative art. It’s an immersive experience that involves the senses of sight, sound, smell, touch and taste. Each artist brings their own perspective to the subject, creating a rich, multi-sensory experience.
This artwork was presented for the first time in April at the Hôtel National des Arts et Métiers gallery in Paris. It will then embark on a tour of the United States and Asia. This will enable a wider public to discover this unique fusion of contemporary art and heritage expertise.
Focal Arts embodies an innovative approach to preserving cultural heritage. By combining ancestral skills with contemporary creativity, the organization creates unique artistic experiences. Thanks to its commitment, Focal Arts is helping to pass on traditional craftsmanship to future generations.
