TCL has just unveiled its new 2024 TV ranges, featuring new QLED technology and high-performance Mini-LED backlighting for home theater and gaming. The Chinese brand is determined to hold its own against the best Korean and Japanese TVs!

Just a stone’s throw from the Champs-Élysées, TCL welcomed us to the unveiling of its new 2024 TV ranges. An opportunity for the manufacturer to assert its mastery of quantum dot technology and Mini-LED backlighting. In addition to announcing the arrival on the French market of the gigantic 115″ TV (3 meters across) that will crown the TCL X955 range, the manufacturer presented another premium range adopting sixth-generation Mini-LED backlighting: the TCL C89B TVs.
TCL QLED Pro: quantum dots made in TCL
QLED Pro is the name of the brand-new quantum dot technology developed by the Chinese manufacturer. TCL is therefore no longer dependent on a third-party supplier, increasing its control over the TV manufacturing process.
TCL QLED Pro technology is based on a novel quantum crystalline material and a stable alloy structure that enables extremely efficient, steady and long-lasting light emission for each of the three primary colors that make up the image. At the same time, TCL is unveiling a new, ultra-precise quantum dot encapsulation technology, to fuse nanometric and organic quantum materials into multiple layers and therefore enhance the optical performance of the QLED filter.

This enables TCL TVs using this technology to display over a billion colors, covering 98% of the DCI-P3 gamut. Viewers will enjoy richer colors, for greater realism on screen. Incidentally, this technology also extends the lifespan of quantum dots, with the manufacturer claiming up to 100,000 hours.
TCL Mini-LED sixth generation
The other key feature of TCL’s new-generation premium TVs is their sixth-generation mini LED backlighting. In addition to brightness peaks of up to 5,000 nits on the 115″ (292cm) giant, it offers extremely fine backlight management. It features more than 20,000 local dimming zones, and can modulate the light intensity of each zone according to 65,000 dimming levels (12 bits).

TCL 2024 Mini LED TVs offer a high level of contrast while significantly reducing the halo effect when displaying bright elements against a dark background. They also guarantee deep blacks and plenty of detail in dark scenes. This also enables them to dramatically refine the nuances of color gradations when broadcasting HDR programs. This kind of performance is totally unprecedented and exclusive to the manufacturer, who is demonstrating its technological advance over its competitors, be they Chinese, Korean or Japanese.
TCL 115X955 Max: flagship QD Mini LED
It’s official! The Chinese manufacturer’s flagship, the only 115″ TV on the market (2.92m across), will go on sale in France this year. The QD Mini LED TV we saw at IFA 2023 will soon take pride of place in your living room!
This ultra-high-end TCL 2024 TV features QLED Pro technology and sixth-generation mini LED backlighting. With brightness peaks of up to 5,000 nits and particularly fine backlight management, this giant of more than 8 million pixels promises to dramatically refine the nuances of color gradations when displaying HDR programs.
To this end, this TCL XXL TV is Dolby Vision IQ and Dolby Vision Gaming compatible, as well as supporting HDR10+, to process the dynamic range of HDR content scene by scene. The manufacturer has also added IMAX Enhanced compatibility, to ensure optimum viewing quality for cinema fans.
For an immersive sound experience, this TV features Onkyo’s 6.2.2-channel audio system, with support for Dolby Atmos audio tracks.
Gaming features on this outstanding TCL TV include support for 4K 144Hz and 2K 240Hz streams, as well as ALLM, VRR and Freesync Premium Pro compatibility. Last but not least, this smart TV is powered by the Google TV operating system, giving it access to the largest catalog of apps and streaming services on the market.
While the TCL 115X955 Max is expected to be available in the first half of 2024, note that the manufacturer also offers two very large X955 televisions in its catalog. An 85″/214cm model (TCL 85XMQLED98) and a 98″/248cm model (TCL 98XMQLED98), without the Max mention, since the latter “makes do” with a 5th generation Mini LED backlight, with just 256 levels of light dimming.
Price and availability
Availability and price of the TCL 115X955 Max should be announced shortly.
TCL C89B Premium QD Mini LED range
Available in four picture sizes (65″/164cm, 75″/189cm, 85″/214cm and 98″/248cm), the TCL C89B TV range also benefits from QLED Pro technology and 6th generation Mini LED backlighting.
With peak brightness ranging from 3,300 nits (65″) to 3,500 nits (75″, 85″ and 98″), this range of TCL premium 4K TVs offers from 1,300 to over 2,000 local dimming zones depending on the model. Of course, each offers 65,000 levels of light gradation for an HDR display that’s both ultra-precise and nuanced.
The TCL C89B range includes support for Dolby Vision IQ and Gaming, HDR10+ and IMAX Enhanced.
Gamers, meanwhile, are guaranteed maximum image smoothness with 4K display frequency up to 144Hz and 2K up to 240Hz, as well as ALLM, VRR and Freesync Premium Pro functions.
Google TV is included in this Smart TV, and an Onkyo system is responsible for spatializing the Dolby Atmos soundtracks, over 2.2.2 channels for this range.
Price and availability
The TCL C89B range should be available before the end of the first half of 2024. Prices will be announced shortly.
TCL: big ambitions for 2024
TCL is giving itself the means to achieve its ambitions by arming itself with new proprietary sixth-generation QLED Pro and Mini-LED technologies. The Chinese manufacturer has made no secret of its desire to increase its influence in a market where innovation seems to be slowing down among the more established rival brands. TCL is well on the way to challenging the Korean and Japanese giants with its new Mini-LED TVs.
