Disney+ subscribers will soon be able to enjoy a highly immersive experience thanks to the integration of DTS:X on several of the platform’s programs. What titles will be available in this three-dimensional format, and how can you benefit from them?

Queen Rock Montreal: the first concert in DTS:X

In January 2023, Disney+ announced the addition of IMAX Enhanced with DTS to its catalog of Marvel films. More than a year later, this audio format remains absent from the platform, but the wait should soon be over, as Disney’s new press release attests. The American video service officially announces the arrival of DTS:X on May 15, 2024, with the addition of the Queen Rock Montreal concert to its catalog. This streaming world premiere promises to deliver a wide dynamic range and create a veritable sound bubble to convey every moment of the concert with striking realism.

Available from May 15, 2024, the Queen Rock Montreal concert will mark the arrival of DTS:X on Disney+.

This historic concert, held on November 24 and 25 1981, was specifically organized to be filmed for a feature-length film to document the live show. The film has been restored for IMAX by Mercury Studios and digitally remastered with DTS:X sound to capture the world’s most iconic rock band at the peak of their live power.

The addition of DTS in IMAX Enhanced

The arrival of Queen Rock Montreal on the VOD platform on May 15 will also mark the availability of IMAX Enhanced sound in DTS for 18 Marvel films. Each IMAX Enhanced-certified film will benefit from a customized, optimized soundtrack. This exclusive IMAX audio mix, inspired by the multichannel audio system used in IMAX theaters, is adapted for home theater systems and uses the DTS audio codec. Support for this format on Disney+ films means that we can now take advantage of the IMAX sound signature to correctly reproduce the full dynamic range of the mixes and enjoy a listening experience as close as possible to that offered in movie theaters.

How to enjoy IMAX Enhanced and DTS:X movies

To enjoy films shot in IMAX or mastered in this format in the best possible conditions, all you need is IMAX Enhanced-certified equipment. This label is upheld by IMAX and DTS, in association with major electronics brands such as Sony, Denon, Marantz and Pioneer. For an optimal experience, the entire system needs to be IMAX Enhanced certified, from the TV to the AV receiver or soundbar.

What IMAX Enhanced and DTS programs are available on Disney?

The IMAX soundtrack will be available on the Disney+ platform from May 15 for all IMAX content. In France, this includes the Queen Rock Montreal concert, as well as the following 18 Marvel titles:
