AWOL Vision aims to shake up the ultra-short-throw projector market

Long dominated by a few major, long-established brands, the home theater video projection market is undergoing rapid change, driven by new players specializing in laser technology and ultra-short-throw projectors. These up-and-coming manufacturers are banking on top-of-the-line performance, advanced gaming features, and ever-more-spectacular image formats to attract consumers looking for alternatives to XXL TVs.

Among them, AWOL Vision is gradually establishing itself in the premium UST projector segment. Following a well-received first generation of Triple Laser models, the brand is now unveiling the Aetherion Pro and Aetherion Max, two 4K RGB laser projectors designed for home theater and gaming. Dolby Vision compatibility, projection up to 200 inches, low latency, and wide color gamut are among the features highlighted by the manufacturer.

AWOL Vision: a young brand that has already established itself in the UST projector market

Founded in 2020, AWOL Vision specializes in home theater solutions based on ultra-short-throw (UST) laser video projection. The brand focuses its development on systems capable of replacing a large-screen TV in a living room, with an approach centered on immersion and very large images.

AWOL Vision is rapidly gaining visibility thanks to several crowdfunding campaigns that have generated a lot of excitement among home theater enthusiasts. The brand’s first generation of UST projectors, including the LTV-2500 and LTV-3500, is helping to establish AWOL in the premium laser projector segment.

The manufacturer is also seeking to differentiate itself in several technical areas. Its models feature a Triple Laser RGB light source, 3D compatibility—which has become rare on the market—and a strong focus on gaming, with support for VRR, ALLM, and low display latency. The brand is also developing a comprehensive ecosystem around its projectors, including ALR screens, surround sound solutions, and various accessories designed for UST installations.

Two 4K UST projectors designed for video and gaming

The AWOL Vision Aetherion Pro and Aetherion Max feature a 4K UHD DLP architecture with a 0.47-inch DMD chip and a Triple RGB Laser light source. Both models cover 110% of the Rec.2020 color space and boast a native contrast ratio of 6,000:1.

The brand also highlights its “Noirscene System II,” which combines an EBL algorithm with a seven-level dynamic iris. The goal is to improve black levels and perceived contrast. AWOL Vision also claims a 99.99% reduction in the rainbow effect on both 2D and 3D content.

Both projectors support HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG, as well as Dolby Vision and IMAX Enhanced. They also feature Dynamic Tone Mapping and a Filmmaker mode.

Gaming is one of the key uses targeted by AWOL Vision. Aetherion projectors support VRR, ALLM, and Dolby Vision Gaming, with a claimed input lag of 1 ms. Connectivity options include three HDMI 2.1 ports, a DisplayPort input, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4.

The main difference between the two models is their brightness. The Aetherion Pro delivers 2,600 ISO lumens, while the Aetherion Max reaches 3,300 ISO lumens for more comfortable use in bright rooms.

Summary

With the Aetherion Pro and Max, AWOL Vision reaffirms its ambitions in the highly competitive premium ultra-short-throw video projection segment. The brand is continuing the strategy it launched with the LTV series by focusing on Triple RGB Laser technology, advanced gaming features, and very large screen sizes.

The emergence of manufacturers like AWOL Vision also illustrates the evolution of the home theater market. Young, specialized brands are now able to compete with established players by offering highly feature-rich UST projectors capable of combining high brightness, advanced video processing, and extensive HDR compatibility. This trend is helping to accelerate technological progress in the sector and diversify the range of options available to consumers.
