JBL BassPro SL2 car subwoofer

- Ultra-compact design for installation under a seat
- Built-in 125 W RMS Class D amplifier
- 20 cm driver
- Adjustable low-pass filter from 50 to 120 Hz
- High-Level and RCA Inputs
- Wired remote control for bass adjustment
- Price: €239
This is a great subwoofer—you really need to plan the installation carefully, especially when it comes to wiring the 12V connection to the battery. Once you’ve fine-tuned the car stereo by setting the filters correctly, it’s pure joy! The bass is rich and deep for a subwoofer that takes up so little space under the seat, which leaves plenty of room in the trunk—and that’s a big advantage!

FiiO DM15 R2R CD player

- CD player, DAC and portable headphone amplifier
- Balanced R2R DAC with 192 resistors
- 32-bit/384 kHz PCM and DSD256 compatible
- Headphone amplification up to 1150 mW into 32 ohms
- Bluetooth 5.4 with aptX HD and aptX Adaptive
- Built-in ripping feature
- Price: €269
A gift from my wife that I bought on this site—it’s a pure pleasure to rediscover my CDs that were gathering dust. Some of them aren’t available on streaming services, and I really missed being able to listen to them. The player is connected via optical cable directly to a pair of KEF LS50 W2s—I’m impressed by the clarity and balance of the bass. The sound is natural and similar to the sound I love when listening to vinyl. I mainly use the player in “desk” mode—I haven’t tested it on the go yet. When space is limited and you’re looking for a high-quality device, this is truly the best.

Klipsch Forte IV floorstanding speakers

- 3-way design with a 38 cm passive radiator
- 30.5 cm woofer with composite fiber cone
- Compression drivers with Tractrix horns
- High sensitivity of 99 dB
- Frequency response from 38Hz to 20kHz
- Handcrafted in the United States
- Price: €6,590
I had some LEEDH Elfe speakers that I wanted to replace. It was a tough decision because they’re magnificent speakers. Over the years, I’ve gradually refined the qualities of the Elfe by upgrading the equipment surrounding these magnificent “flowers”, which have been nurtured with great musical passion over three decades, and a little more. […] But now, I know everything there is to know about them, and I wanted to move on to other “flowers” and start the cycle of discovery anew. I hope they’ll bring me just as much delicacy and raw emotion. After more than a month of listening sessions, I think my gamble has paid off brilliantly. I often find myself in the front row at a concert. Bravo, Klipsch. Long live the Forte!

Cayin Soul 170i tube amplifier

- Class AB amplification using Tungsol KT170 tubes
- 2 × 75 W output power in triode mode or 2 × 130 W in ultra-linear mode
- Frequency response from 5 Hz to 50 kHz
- RCA, XLR, and Pre-In Inputs
- Dual subwoofer output
- Bias adjustment and remote control included
- Price: €5,490
Having owned many systems (hybrid transistor and tubes), I can say after 300 hours of break-in that I’ve never heard such a perfect match in my system. It was a rough start because the Cayin was really unstable in every way—the bias settings were all over the place and way out of tolerance, the sound was muddy, and it lacked dynamics. I gave it a chance anyway, telling myself it just needed to break in, and after 100 hours, things started to come together—albeit tentatively. I own two pairs of high-efficiency 98 dB speakers that I built myself using top-of-the-line components (JBL, 18Sound, Cartesian, Jantzen, Mundorf!) and a pair of Dynaudio Contour Black Edition 84 dB speakers. And now, after 350 hours of break-in, it’s simply magnificent—and to be honest, I’ve never had an amp of this caliber. Powerful, smooth, textured, well-defined, balanced. Sometimes I spend 10 hours straight without being able to turn it off—it’s that good. I compared it to my T+A PA3100HV amp (2×300 watts), and I much prefer the Cayin Soul in every way!

Aurzen BOOM Air projector

- Full HD resolution, 4K-compatible
- Google TV with built-in Netflix and Google Cast
- Automatic adjustments using ToF technology
- 300 ANSI lumens
- 65 W USB-C power bank-compatible power supply
- 10 W Dolby Audio-compatible driver
- Price: €199.99
I decided to buy this projector—which offers almost unbelievably good value for money—after seeing its review in the monthly magazine Son-Vidéo. I bought it to project films in a playroom for young kids, but I just couldn’t resist using it myself to watch a few matches from Roland Garros; the quality was stunning with a 2.5-meter picture projected onto a plain white wall after I dimmed the lights in the room. I’ve downloaded FreeTV, so now I’ll be using it for the World Cup. Disney will have to wait.

WiiM Ultra network audio player

- Large 3.5-inch touchscreen
- ESS Sabre ES9038 Q2M DAC
- Wi-Fi 6E, Chromecast, and bidirectional Bluetooth 5.3
- HDMI ARC input and MM phono input
- 10-band equalizer with acoustic correction
- Built-in headphone amplifier and subwoofer output
- Price: €399
I purchased the Wiim Ultra to complement an older but high-quality system that includes, among other things, an excellent Sansui AU-7500 amplifier and a Magnat three-channel system. The system’s exceptionally intuitive setup, combined with the musical quality and capabilities of this streamer, are unmatched at this price point. I highly recommend this streamer to audiophiles who own high-quality vintage hi-fi systems and want to upgrade their setup. Top-notch results with Qobuz.

Asus ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM gaming monitor

- 26.5-inch 4th-generation QD-OLED panel
- Ultra HD 4K resolution (3840 × 2160)
- 240 Hz refresh rate
- 0.03 ms response time
- DisplayPort 2.1a UHBR20 and two HDMI 2.1 ports
- Compatible with AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-Sync
- Price: €1,190
Since I wanted to switch to OLED, I spent a long time debating the screen size, coming from a 27″ IPS monitor. After testing a 1440p UWD model and then seeing a 32-inch 4K model in a store, I finally opted for this model given my short viewing distance (70 cm). It’s probably the best monitor I’ve ever seen: exceptional image quality, plenty of customization options, and gorgeous blacks and contrast. The connectivity is top-notch and future-proof (DP 2.1), especially since my GPU already supports this standard. The only downside is the stand: the monitor looks great but takes up a lot of space.

Technics SL-1300G turntable

- Direct drive with coreless motor
- Delta Sigma Drive anti-vibration technology
- 3.6 kg brass and aluminum platter
- Reinforced, double-layer anti-resonance chassis
- Static-balanced aluminum S-shaped tonearm
- 33, 45, and 78 RPM compatible
- Price: €2,990
Easy setup, packaging made entirely of cardboard with no plastic, and easy leveling with the adjustable feet. Adjusting the tonearm is a pleasure, especially the height, thanks to a large, very smooth knob. I’ve used a Denon DL 103r, a Hana ML, and an Ortofon SPU GE mkII. All three cartridges work perfectly. The Denon requires a heavy headshell to balance the total mass of the tonearm with the cartridge’s low compliance. (I used an 18-gram headshell in this case.) The Ortofon SPU cartridge is the heaviest you can mount on the tonearm with the large counterweight. Two features stand out about this turntable: a complete absence of surface noise when playing vinyl and perfect rotational stability. Both are impressive. Any flaws? The tonearm lever feels a bit flimsy, and its resistance is virtually nonexistent. You just have to be careful when using it to lower the tonearm gently.

Focal Azurys hi-fi headphones

- Closed-back, over-ear design
- 40 mm “M” dome transducers
- Patented transducers designed and manufactured in France
- Frequency response from 15 Hz to 22 kHz
- 3.5 mm mini-jack cable with remote control and microphone
- Replaceable ear pads and cable
- Price: €399
The first thing that stands out is the build quality: the headphones have impeccable finishes! You either love it or hate it, but as far as I’m concerned, the design is really well done. The fabric headband where it touches your hair, as well as the ear pads, is a great idea and avoids the use of leather, which deteriorates with moisture and over time. The downside is the included cable, which isn’t reinforced, and, of course, the fact that it’s only available in an unbalanced configuration. As for the sound: I’m rediscovering my songs! The bass is tight and punchy, a far cry from the rounded sound of a Sony XM3, for example (even though they’re not in the same league). The mids are present without being overpowering, and the highs are balanced without becoming unpleasant over time. Paired with a Fiio M33R2R, I even applied a slight boost at 16 kHz just to let the aluminum and magnesium drivers shine and bring out more detail. For “portable” headphones, they sound very high-quality, and they retain Focal’s signature sound, even though I do find the bass a tad emphasized. But the overall balance of the soundstage is impeccable, and vocals have a pleasant presence; the soundstage is even quite wide for closed-back headphones.
