After appealing to a broader audience with the SL-40CBT Bluetooth turntable, Technics is returning to the fundamentals that made it famous in the DJing world. With the new Technics SL-1210MKX, the Japanese manufacturer is reconnecting with the legacy of its famous SL-1200 series, which has become a benchmark in clubs around the globe. Positioned above the SL-1200MK7, this new professional direct-drive DJ turntable offers improved vibration resistance and, most importantly, more precise and extended pitch control. It’s designed to meet the demands of DJs who love to mix and scratch.

More precise pitch control for DJs

The main new feature of the Technics SL-1210MKX is its pitch control, an essential function for DJs who want to manually synchronise the tempo of two tracks. For the first time on a turntable in the SL-1200 series, Technics has introduced a ±4% adjustment range, which complements the standard ±8% and ±16% ranges. This narrower range allows for finer adjustment of the record’s rotation speed, enabling precise matching of the BPM (beats per minute) of two tracks with similar tempos.

The Technics SL-1210MKX DJ turntable features a new pitch control range that extends from ±4% to ±50%, offering greater precision during mixing sessions.

In contrast, the new ±50% range allows for much greater flexibility in adjusting playback speed. This feature is particularly geared toward DJs who practice turntablism, a discipline that involves manipulating vinyl records to create new sound and rhythmic effects. With its four adjustment ranges, the SL-1210MKX offers even more possibilities for both traditional mixing and creative performances. A new, quieter pitch reset switch rounds out these enhancements.

Technics SL-1210MKX: a turntable that resists vibrations

In clubs and at festivals, powerful sound systems produce bass that can interfere with vinyl playback. To minimise this issue, Technics has equipped the SL-1210MKX with a heavier, better-balanced chassis, combined with new isolating feet. This combination is designed to reduce vibration transmission and the risk of feedback, which occurs when sound vibrations picked up by the cartridge are amplified and then fed back into the audio system.

These structural improvements are also designed to provide greater stability during scratching sessions, which place heavy demands on the platter and tonearm. In addition, the Technics SL-1210MKX turntable retains the brand’s coreless direct-drive motor, with adjustable motor torque and braking speed. This allows DJs to tailor the platter’s responsiveness to their mixing style. 78 rpm playback and a reverse playback function round out its capabilities.

A successor to the SL-1200MK2 designed for professionals

With its black finish and polished silver tonearm, the Technics SL-1210MKX DJ turntable incorporates several design elements from the famous SL-1200MK2, which was launched in 1979. That model was instrumental in popularising quartz-controlled direct-drive technology among DJs. The new model follows in this tradition while incorporating several practical improvements, such as LED lighting on the stylus tip to reduce glare, a more secure cartridge mount, and an earth terminal that’s larger and easier to use.

Developed in collaboration with professional DJs and sound engineers, the SL-1210MKX is primarily aimed at clubs, festivals, touring DJs, and scratch specialists. It is also designed for concert venues and professional equipment rental companies. The name “MKX” refers to the terms “Extreme” and “Expert”, which highlight this focus.

This release also marks the 55th anniversary of the SL-1200 series, the first model of which dates back to 1972. A lineup that has evolved alongside disco, hip-hop, house, and techno, placing vinyl playback at the heart of DJing.

Technics SL-1210MKX unveiled at the 2026 Paris Audio Video Show

The new Technics SL-1210MKX turntable will be on display at the 2026 Paris Audio Video Show on October 24 and 25 at the Palais des Congrès. This should tide fans over until its scheduled release in January 2027, priced at €1,499.

With the SL-1210MKX, Technics is refocusing its product catalogue on the professional applications that built the reputation of the SL-1200 series. Its new pitch control, with a range of ±4%, combined with an extended range of up to ±50%, represents its most significant evolution. The reinforced chassis, new isolating feet, and adjustable controls are designed to meet the demands of club and live performance environments. This new turntable therefore follows in the footsteps of Technics’ iconic models, with upgrades specifically tailored to the needs of DJs. It’s only natural, then, that the brand’s latest release is making its debut at Europe’s largest hi-fi and home theatre trade show!
