While Rockstar Games is celebrating its 25th anniversary, what better gift than the very first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI? Initially scheduled for November 5, the studio had to deal with a leak and the video was unofficially published on X. The video game giant responded immediately by releasing the first images of one of the most eagerly awaited titles of this generation on their YouTube channel, a few hours ahead of schedule.
Grand Theft Auto VI: new characters and an iconic location
Ten years after the release of Grand Theft Auto V, which was available for three generations of consoles, Rockstar is back in the spotlight. After “Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition”, a somewhat lazy compilation of remasters, and a simple adaptation of “Red Dead Redemption” on PlayStation 4, the legendary studio is returning to confirm its position as a reference in the video game industry, with this first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI.
If you’re familiar with the series, you’ll surely recognize the shots of Vice City. A location that will bring back many memories for gamers who played “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City”. While the 2002 game had a very 80s atmosphere, in GTA 6 the city is very modern. The trailer refers to social networking culture, with short sequences reminiscent of Instagram. There’s no doubt that the game will provide insightful critique.
Grand Theft Auto VI will feature the characters Lucia and Jason. The couple of bank robbers are heavily inspired by Bonnie and Clyde and promise exciting storytelling throughout the adventure. This first trailer already features heists and car chases on the streets of Vice City.
What is the release date for GTA 6?
With this trailer, Rockstar confirms rumors that had been circulating for several months. GTA 6 will be available for gamers in 2025. Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take Two, predicted record profits for investors over this period. At the time, it was hard to imagine anything other than Grand Theft Auto when faced with such an announcement.
For now, Rockstar hasn’t revealed an exact date, just the year. A practice that has become commonplace, so as not to make promises to gamers that cannot be kept. In development for over ten years, the studio has really taken its time, and we hope that Grand Theft Auto VI will live up to expectations. In less than ten hours, the video released by Rockstar surpassed 50 million views. There’s a real sense of anticipation surrounding the game. Once again, the title could well shake up the entire video game industry.
On which platforms will Grand Theft Auto VI be released?
To be able to play GTA 6 upon release, you’ll have to have a PlayStation 5, an Xbox Series S or an Xbox Series X, as it will first be available on consoles. The PC version will be released in 2026.
