At the same time as announcing compatibility with Dirac Live Bass Control calibration technology for Denon and Marantz receivers, the two manufacturers have announced a major update to the HEOS app and ecosystem. On the agenda: an overhaul of the visual interface, more intuitive navigation and several bug fixes.

New user interface

The December 2023 update of the HEOS app for iOS and Android provides a completely redesigned user interface. The latter looks more modern and elegant, ensuring intuitive, easy navigation. The homepage lets you immediately access recently played tracks, favorites and music services. One of the highlights of this update is the new “Now Playing” display, cleverly positioned at the bottom of the screen. This feature allows users to keep an eye on the audio track currently playing, while easily navigating through the app.

Universal music library

Users can create custom HEOS playlists by adding media from various streaming services. The new universal music search feature is a notable update, allowing you to search simultaneously in your personal libraries and on all your subscribed streaming services. A very interesting feature that could well make the HEOS system a strong competitor to Roon, which was one of the first to offer this tool.

Bug fixes

This HEOS update also comes with a series of functional and stability improvements. For greater ease of use, the new interface ensures easier and quicker communication with all connected devices. It is now possible to control up to 64 HEOS compatible devices (connected hi-fi amps, AV receivers, connected speakers, etc.) installed throughout the home. Denon has also announced support for the Apple Siri voice assistant for Denon Home devices such as the  Denon Home 150, Denon Home 250 and Denon Home 350 speakers, as well as the Denon Home 550 and Denon Home 550 5.1 soundbars. Lastly, a Bluetooth emitter feature has also been added for the Denon DNP-2000 network player and the Denon PMA-900NE and Marantz Model 40n hi-fi amplifiers.

In addition to Google Assistant and Alexa, Denon Home devices (here the Denon Home 150 speaker) now feature Siri to facilitate voice control.

This new update for the HEOS ecosystem by Denon and Marantz is a perfect illustration of their determination to continuously enhance and diversify the abilities of their connected devices. These devices are increasingly functional, easy to use and user-friendly. However, it should be noted that, despite these notable advances, the high-quality music streaming service Qobuz is still not included in the list of HEOS-compatible services. We hope to see this integration in future updates.
