Specialized in hi-fi and home theater, the AVForums website and forum offers a wealth of tests, news and articles relating to image and sound. Launched in 2000 in the UK, this online magazine has members from over 200 countries and is very active on social media, with over 110,000 subscribers on YouTube.

AVForums Editor's Choice Awards 2023

Every year, AVForums gives the AVForums Editor’s Choice Award to the best audio and video equipment in several categories: televisions, projectors, home theater and hi-fi. The winners include TVs, UHD 4K projectors, soundbars, AV receivers, hi-fi speakers, hi-fi headphones, hi-fi turntables and much more. LG, BenQ, Samsung, Marantz, B&W, Rega… Here are the lucky winners for 2023.

The best TVs and projectors of 2023

In the TV category, LG has the top spot with its LG OLED G3 series, which received the AVForums Editor’s Choice Award for best advanced gaming TV, best living room TV and TV of the year. This range includes 55″/139cm (LG OLED55G3), 65″/164cm (LG OLED65G3), 77″/195cm (LG OLED77G3) and 83″/210cm (LG OLED83G3) models. The forum and specialist site states that the LG OLED55G3 is perfect if you “want a superb allrounder that can produce stunning SDR and HDR movies, normal bright room TV viewing, amazing gaming credentials and some of the best video processing on the market.”

Televisions in the LG G3 range feature an LG OLED evo panel with Micro Lens Array (55″ and 65″ only) and Brightness Booster Max technology to boost brightness and enhance the display of HDR10 and Dolby Vision content.

As for projectors, the BenQ W4000i UHD-4K model secured the award for best affordable home cinema projector. According to AVForums, when it is “married with high quality source material in a dedicated dark viewing room with the curtains closed, the image quality is incredibly accurate thanks to factory calibration and excellent video processing capabilities.”

The best home theater equipment of 2023

In 2023, the Samsung HW-Q990C 11.1.4-channel soundbar was named best immersive audio soundbar by AVFormus. With its lateral and vertical drivers, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X compatibility and wireless subwoofer and surround speakers, the Samsung HW-Q990C provides an ultra-immersive 3D sound experience. The specialist website says “There’s just no other soundbar we’ve tested so far that delivers film soundtracks with as much power, presence and immersive staging as the Q990C.”

Accompanied by a subwoofer and wireless surround speakers, the Samsung HW-Q990C soundbar provides a relatively “compact” ultra-immersive home theater system.

Another winner in the home theater category was the Marantz Cinema 60 DAB amplifier, named best midrange AV receiver. For the forum, this Dolby Atmos and DTS:X compatible 7.2-channel model “sounds as superb as I have come to expect from Marantz AVRs, coupling capable two-channel musicality with an impressive multichannel performance.”

The best hi-fi equipment of 2023

In the hi-fi category, the Bowers & Wilkins 606 S3 speaker received the AVForums Editor’s Choice Award for best affordable hi-fi speaker. Equipped with a 6.5” Continuum cone midbass driver and a titanium dome tweeter, this bookshelf speaker from the British brand delivers a detailed and transparent sound. According to AVForums, it “is a genuinely engaging bit of kit that also answers every sober question you might ask of it.”

Another big winner in 2023, the Rega Elex MK4 stereo hi-fi amp earned the best aspirational stereo amplifier and product of the year awards. AVForums was blown away by this audiophile model, commenting “There’s no other amplifier I’ve tested recently at the price that offers the imperious ability of the Elex Mk4. 2023 has seen a host of great amps in the £1-2K price point come through for testing and the Rega has seen them all off.”
