Samsung 2024 soundbars: mini size, maxi sound!

World leader in the soundbar market for 10 consecutive years, Samsung unveils its new 2024 models!

Popular with home theater enthusiasts who don’t want to multiply the number of devices in their living rooms, soundbars considerably improve the sound reproduction of a TV, while remaining a reasonable size. The Korean manufacturer is one of the most innovative and design-conscious actors in this domain. Samsung’s 2024 soundbars include ultra-slim, compact models for sliding in front of the TV, as well as high-performance Dolby Atmos soundbars.

Samsung HW-S811D: mini size, maxi sound!

One of the best sellers of 2023, the ultra-thin Samsung HW-S801B soundbar is now available as the Samsung HW-S811D. The same 3.1.2-channel architecture of the previous model is used, as well as the ultra-compact casing housing a dozen drivers. Its dimensions (116 cm long, 3.8 cm high and 3.9 cm deep) make it easy to slide under a TV measuring of 65″/164 cm or more. The included wall bracket can also be used for wall mounting.

The Samsung HW-S811D soundbar is accompanied by a wireless subwoofer, also very compact. The driver is fitted with a passive radiator to increase the emissive surface area and, consequently, the bass sound pressure level. This Samsung HW-S811D soundbar supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X audio tracks, and connects easily to the TV via HDMI eARC, or wirelessly (WiFi). Q-Symphony technology also enables it to work in synergy with the drivers of a compatible Samsung TV, for greater power and impact. Finally, this Samsung HW-S811D soundbar is AirPlay 2, Chromecast and Bluetooth compatible, and features the Alexa voice assistant.

Samsung HW-S710D/HW-S711D: a slim, compact soundbar!

The Samsung HW-S710 (black) and Samsung HW-S711 (white) models are the latest additions to the Samsung 2024 soundbar range. They take up the aesthetics of the Samsung HW-S811D in a slightly more compact format, to fit under televisions of up to 55″/139 cm. Measuring less than 4 cm in height, this discreet soundbar can be placed in front of the TV or mounted on the wall underneath, thanks to its included wall bracket.

The Samsung HW-S710/HW-S711 soundbar delivers 3.1-channel sound with 7 drivers, including a true center channel for clear, distinct dialogue. Its included wireless subwoofer features a 6.5″/16.5 cm driver, to deliver deep, powerful bass.

Dolby Atmos compatible, this ultra-slim Samsung soundbar connects via HDMI eARC with any TV, and can also be connected to Samsung TVs wirelessly via WiFi, even for Dolby Atmos reproduction. Samsung’s Q-Symphony technology also synchronizes the soundbar’s drivers with those of compatible Samsung TVs, for greater impact and power.

The Samsung HW-S710 (black) and Samsung HW-S711 (white) soundbars will go on sale at €499 in April.

Samsung HW-S66D: a minimalist Dolby Atmos soundbar

Replacing the Samsung HW-S60B soundbar, the Samsung HW-S66D has the same design and 5 amplification channels. Aesthetically very similar to the Sonos Beam soundbar (same size), this model is Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby Atmos compatible, and also features DTS Virtual:X sound processing. A central driver guarantees perfectly audible dialogue. Its side drivers reproduce the surround effects of movies, TV series and video games.

The Samsung HW-S66D soundbar connects to the TV via its HDMI eARC connector or optical digital audio input. It also features WiFi connectivity for wireless music streaming from a smartphone (Apple AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Spotify Connect). Bluetooth is also included for use as a wireless speaker with a smartphone or computer. Finally, this soundbar also benefits from Q-Symphony technology to work in harmony with the speakers of a compatible Samsung TV.

Samsung HW-Q995D: the best Dolby Atmos soundbar!

The Samsung HW-Q995D soundbar is the heavyweight successor to the exceptional Samsung HW-Q990C soundbar, which we tested and loved!

Taking up the main features of its predecessor, this 11.1.4-channel soundbar supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X to deploy a highly immersive 3D sound field. It is accompanied by a subwoofer and a pair of surround speakers with integrated Atmos drivers, wirelessly connected to the soundbar. The whole system is automatically calibrated to optimize sound reproduction according to the room.

In terms of connectivity, the HDMI inputs and output are now in the HDMI 2.1 standard, with an eARC function on the output. This soundbar is therefore compatible with 120Hz 4K, ALLM and VRR streams, and can be installed between a PC, a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S video game console and a 120Hz 4K TV. There’s also an optical digital audio input, as well as Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, with support for AirPlay 2, Chromecast and even Roon (Roon Tested) wireless protocols. This Samsung HW-Q995D soundbar can also be controlled vocally thanks to Alexa integration.

Last but not least, Q-Symphony proprietary technology is still at work on this soundbar. It allows you to synchronize your speakers with those of a compatible Samsung TV, for greater power and sound amplitude.

Samsung HW-Q710D

Little sister to the Samsung HW-Q995D and replacement for the Samsung HW-Q700C, the Samsung HW-Q710D soundbar comes with a wireless subwoofer for intense, immersive sound.

This is a 3.1.2-channel model that supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X soundtracks via its HDMI connectors (one input and one HDMI ARC/eARC output). Bluetooth and WiFi compatible, this Samsung HW-Q710D soundbar adopts AirPlay 2 and Chromecast transmission protocols to wirelessly stream music from a smartphone.

WiFi also enables it to receive Dolby Atmos wirelessly from compatible Samsung TVs, with which it can work in perfect symbiosis thanks to Q-Symphony technology. Finally, as on other Samsung soundbars, Alexa is integrated for voice control.

Samsung Music Frame: ultra-versatile connected speakers

At the same time as the presentation of the new Samsung 2024 soundbars and Samsung 2024 TVs, the Korean manufacturer demonstrated its brand new connected speaker presented at CES 2024: the Samsung Music Frame.

On the front, it can be adorned with a personal photo or a reproduction of a work of art to match your decor. Supplied with a pedestal, this Samsung Music Frame speaker can also be wall-mounted.

The Samsung Music Frame speaker features two tweeters on the front and two woofers on the rear. During the demonstration, we found the sound to be quite detailed, with a pleasing emphasis on the midrange and rather engaging upper lows.

Its WiFi, Chromecast and AirPlay 2 connectivity lets you stream music wirelessly from a smartphone. Best of all, its support for Samsung Q-Symphony technology means it can be connected wirelessly to a Samsung TV. It can then broadcast the sound from the TV, either as a front or surround speaker, depending on its placement. Simply enter its position in the Q-Symphony settings menu of the associated Samsung TV!

Samsung 2024 soundbars: summary

Rather than revolutionizing its ranges, Samsung is capitalizing on its 2023 successes and gently evolving its 2024 soundbars. The main new features are HDMI 2.1 connectivity on its flagship Samsung HW-Q995D, Alexa integration on all models, and the all-new Samsung HW-S710D (black) and Samsung HW-S711D (white) ultra-slim soundbars, suitable for TVs of up to 55″/139 cm.
