The French music streaming platform has announced that it has deleted 26 million tracks. The songs that have disappeared are mainly white noise and imitations generated by artificial intelligence.

13% of catalog erased
With the removal of 26 million tracks, Deezer is carrying out a major update. In all, this represents 13% of its catalog. The French platform did this between September 2023 and March 2024. In particular, it targeted “white noise”, tracks that broadcast uniform noises like the sound of a vacuum cleaner or rain, for example. But it is above all imitations generated by artificial intelligence that Deezer is targeting.
Better pay for artists
By eliminating these uncreative tracks, Deezer aims to provide better pay for real artists. As part of this spring cleaning, the streaming service has also decided to remove tracks that have not been listened to for a year. Deezer is stepping in to clean up a catalog polluted by “fake albums” containing a single track and AI-created content. However, music lovers can rest assured that Deezer still boasts 124 million tracks!
