SONOS has announced the update of its SONOS PLAY:5 wireless multi-room speaker ? the biggest and most powerful in the range of SONOS wireless multi-room speakers. Fitted with 6 drivers, it can play all music shared on the local network wirelessly as well as having access to thousands of Internet radio stations and the most popular online music streaming services. Its design is very similar to that of the SONOS PLAY:1 and SONOS PLAY:3 but with smoother contours and it can be installed either in a horizontal or vertical position.
The SONOS PLAY:5 new generation wireless multi-room speaker is a 2 way model with six drivers ? three for the treble range and three for the medium and bass. These are powered by the same number of Class D amplifier modules which are perfectly attuned to the drivers’ specifications and inner structure of the speaker. Like the SONOS PLAY:3 speaker, the new generation SONOS PLAY:5 can be placed either horizontally (to increase the sound range) or vertically (for a more confined and closer sound field). It can also be paired with a second SONOS PLAY:5 speaker for a 2.0 system with genuine stereo sound.
The other major new feature, revealed by SONOS at the presentation of their new speaker, is the SONOS Trueplay fine-tuning system integrated in the latest version of the SONOS CONTROLLER application. This system automatically optimises the speaker?s output in relation to the room’s acoustic features. This exclusive system uses your iPod touch, iPhone or iPad microphone to adjust your speaker to its surroundings. Sound is therefore always perfectly balanced regardless of where the speaker is placed in the room or whether you have installed one or two speakers. The Trueplay fine-tuning system works with SONOS PLAY:1, SONOS PLAY:3 and SONOS PLAY:5 speakers.
As soon as the SONOS PLAY:5 is connected to the local network, all the music shared on this network can be accessed, be it on a connected computer or NAS, as well as any music on users’ smartphones or tablets. Thousands of Internet radio stations can also be accessed via the integrated tunein interface of the SONOS app, as well as many online streaming services such as Deezer, Spotify, Qobuz, Tidal, Amazon music, Google Play, Fnac Jukebox or Rhapsody to name but a few. The SONOS PLAY:5 also features a mini-jack audio input to which a multimedia player can be connected.
The SONOS PLAY:5 speaker is designed to fit in perfectly in any SONOS multi-room music system to play music throughout the house. Once speakers are connected to the local network, the same music can then be played in all rooms of your home or different styles of music for each room. Operating the various listening zones as well as music streaming can be carried out simply using the app.
One of the key components of the SONOS multi-room ecosystem, the SONOS PLAY:5 should be available by the end of the year – just in time to be the perfect gift under the Christmas tree.
