A complete in-wall Klipsch home theater system.

Klipsch has just released a new range of  in-wall speakers and in-wall subwoofers along with power amplifiers designed for in-wall speakers. These innovative and practical speakers are suitable for both hi-fi and home theater systems. If you are planning on remodeling your living room, the following might be of interest, especially if you are thinking about installing a Dolby Atmos immersive home theater system in your home.

What if listening to music in hi-fi conditions with in-wall speakers and without a bulky subwoofer in the corner of the room was possible? Klipsch seriously thought about making this a reality and, as a result, designed three in-wall subwoofers suitable for any living room. The Klipsch PRO-800SW Subwoofer is a compact box designed to be installed behind a wall (the enclosure features a 4” bass-reflex port which delivers frequencies inside the wall) and comes with a fully paintable magnetic grill. This subwoofer is fitted with an 8” Cerametallic driver capable of delivering lows down to 38 Hz. The bass restitution is deep and dynamic whether you are watching movies or listening to music. The PRO-800SW may be installed in a dropped ceiling or even under the raised platform of a theater room. One subwoofer ensures a maximum sound pressure level (SPL) of 103 dB, two subs add up to 106 dB, and 4 subwoofers may deliver up to 112 dB.

Optimized power amplifiers

In order to properly drive this passive subwoofer, Klipsch released two power amplifiers, the Klipsch KDA-500 Amplifier and the Klipsch KDA-1000 Amplifier, capable of delivering 4×125 W and 4×250 W respectively. The DSPs integrated into these amplifiers feature EQ and bandwidth profiles which were specifically developed for Klipsch in-wall speakers and subwoofers. The Klipsch power amplifiers’ Ethernet port provides access to the web-based DSP menu, which is a very convenient feature. For action-packed listening sessions and larger rooms, the Klipsch PRO-1000SW and Klipsch PRO-1200SW in-wall subwoofers, respectively fitted with a 10” (25 cm) driver and a 12” (30 cm) driver, deliver low frequencies directly into the room. These two closed-enclosure models boast an extended response in the lows, almost 20 Hz for the 1200SW.

Klipsch also released two new ranges of in-wall speakers, the DS series and PRO series. The Klipsch DS series is comprised of speakers with non-metallic cones which ensure a precise and pleasant sound restitution (clear mids, bright highs). The circular models, Klipsch DS-160C, Klipsch DS-160CDT, Klipsch DS-160CSM, Klipsch DS-180CDT and Klipsch DS-180CSM, are fitted with a 6.5” or 8” coaxial driver and a silk dome tweeter.

The CDT models are fitted with rotating tweeters (especially convenient for lateral surround channels), while the CSM models feature two tweeters for stereo sound restitution or extended mono restitution (suitable for background music in a bathroom or a kitchen, for example). The DS series also includes rectangular speakers with separated drivers for bass and high frequencies; the Klipsch DS-160W and Klipsch DS-250W-LCR. These two models feature a classic coverage angle and are suited for all types of systems, from a stereo installation to a 7.2.4 home theater configuration.

The Klipsch PRO series is comprised of speakers loaded with IMG (graphite) bass-mid drivers and semi-horn loaded or Tractrix horn-loaded tweeters. The PRO-RC models feature coaxial drivers for an almost invisible, in-wall or in-ceiling installation (Klipsch PRO-14-RC, Klipsch PRO-16-RC and Klipsch PRO-18-RC models). The Klipsch PRO-14-RW, Klipsch PRO-16-RW and Klipsch PRO-18-RW are fitted with separated drivers and Tractrix horns for particularly effective sound delivery in large rooms. The sensitivity of the tweeter as well as the angle of the horn may be adjusted on the latter two models.

All of these speakers only require a few centimeters of mounting depth (8 to 11 cm) and may be installed without using any screws thanks to the Sky Hook and Secure Grip systems. All of these speakers may be driven by any home theater receiver or stereo amplifier available on the market.
