Yamaha MusicCast: how does it work?

Multiroom audio, app & voice control

Technology Yamaha MusicCast makes it easy to play the same track or different songs in every room of the house. This is called multiroom technology. The list of Yamaha MusicCast-compatible devices includes everything from compact hi-fi systems to high-fidelity amplifiers, AV receivers, soundbars and compact wireless speakers. A smartphone or tablet may be used to control the various elements via the free dedicated app. Yamaha MusicCast devices can be used separately or together.

Yamaha MusicCast uses the local network to broadcast music: it can be songs from a smartphone or tablet, songs stored on a computer or on a NAS connected to the network, but also Internet radios or even online music servicessuch as Spotify, Deezer, Qobuz, Tidal and now Amazon Music HD.

Yamaha MusicCast devices can be controlled vocally via Google Assistant, using Alexa devices but also using Siri on iOS or via AirPlay 2.

External sources & Hi-Res audio

In addition, any external source connected to a Yamaha MusicCast devices is likely to be played through the multiroom audio system. It can be for example the 4K UHD TV and blu-ray player connected via an optical or HDMI cable to a Yamaha MusicCast compatible AV receiver. It also works with a CD player or aturntable connected to a Yamaha MusicCast hi-fi amplifier. The sound produced by each of these elements can thus be delivered throughout the house.

Even sound from an external source can be played throughout the house (TV, Blu-ray, CD), as long as said source is connected to a Yamaha MusicCast device.

Finally, compatibility with high-resolution audio files is ensured, in DSD (5.6 Mhz), Apple Lossless (ALAC 96 kHz) or WAV, FLAC and AIFF (192 kHz) format.
