SVS takes another step forward in optimizing low frequencies with the introduction of the Auto EQ feature on its R|Evolution subwoofer lineup. Highly anticipated by users, this acoustic correction technology is now available for free via an update to the SVS Subwoofer Control app. Thanks to this feature, the SVS 17-Ultra R|Evolution, 5000 R|Evolution, and 3000 R|Evolution models can now analyze the room’s acoustics and automatically adjust their output to deliver more precise, consistent bass that integrates better with the audio system.

Room acoustics: the main challenge for low frequencies

Even the best subwoofer can have its performance severely limited by the environment in which it is installed. Resonance, standing waves, dips, and peaks in the frequency response are all phenomena that influence the perception of low frequencies. Once the update is installed, the user launches the process directly from the SVS Subwoofer Control app, available on iOS and Android. The system then uses the smartphone’s built-in microphone to take several acoustic measurements in the room.

The app guides the user step by step through the various calibration stages. After analyzing the subwoofer’s response in the listening environment, the system automatically applies the necessary corrections to achieve a more linear and better-balanced frequency response. The entire process takes only a few minutes and requires no manual adjustments. For users who want to take it a step further, SVS will also offer an optional external microphone that provides greater measurement accuracy.

Once these anomalies are identified, the internal DSP applies extremely precise equalization to achieve a more linear sound reproduction.

According to SVS, this is the most powerful digital signal processor ever built into a subwoofer. This processing power not only enables the new Auto EQ feature to function, but also allows for extremely precise control of all the subwoofer’s operating parameters.

The DSP controls the amplifiers in real time, monitors driver behavior, optimizes thermal management, and adjusts the system’s response to maintain consistent performance even at very high volume levels. This processing power is complemented by high-end digital-to-analog converters with a signal-to-noise ratio exceeding 120 dB. This architecture helps preserve signal integrity and ensures exceptionally clean and detailed reproduction of low frequencies.

The SVS Auto EQ acoustic calibration relies on the powerful 295 MHz Analog Devices DSP processor built into the R|Evolution subwoofers. SVS Auto EQ technology is now available via a free update to the SVS Subwoofer Control app for the SVS 17-Ultra R|Evolution, SVS 5000 R|Evolution, and SVS 3000 R|Evolution models. Owners of these subwoofers can immediately take advantage of this new feature at no additional cost. SVS has also confirmed that the upcoming SVS 3000 Micro R|Evolution will also benefit from this technology in an upcoming update scheduled for this summer.
