After the success of the Davis Acoustics Krypton 6 which notably received a Diapason d’or, the French manufacturer completes its Krypton range with the Davis Acoustics Krypton 3 bookshelf speaker and Davis Acoustics Krypton 9 floorstanding speaker. These two new speakers use the technical elements provided by the first model in the range to maintain a neutral and faithful reproduction, equally well suited to hi-fi and home theater use.

The Davis Acoustics Krypton range which includes the multi-award winning Davis Acoustics Krypton 6 loudspeaker is complemented and updated with the Davis Acoustics Krypton 3 compact loudspeakers and large Davis Acoustics Krypton 9 floorstanding speaker.

Davis Acoustics Krypton: exclusive drivers

Since the release of the first Davis Acoustics Krypton speaker in 1994, the Krypton range, one of the French manufacturer most iconic series, has come a long way. The speakers that compose it are notably equipped with more modern technologies to ideally combine compactness, performance and design. Kevlar, the material of choice for Davis Acoustics drivers, is still featured to achieve a faithful and uniform reproduction. This material is therefore found in the 5″ driver responsible for reproducing the mids on the Davis Acoustics Krypton 9 floorstander and the mids/lows on the Davis Acoustics Krypton 3 bookshelf speaker. Identical to the one that also equips the Davis Acoustics Krypton 6, this Kevlar driver adopts a metal phase plug in its center to limit turbulence and reduce distortion. The sound therefore gains more naturalness and richness, and details are more precise, as underlined in the Davis Acoustics Krypton 6 review. This performance has enabled the Davis Krypton 6 speaker to receive numerous awards, including a Diapason d’or.

The Kevlar driver of the Davis Acoustics Krypton speakers offers a rich, natural and uniform reproduction.

The most efficient model in the range, the Davis Acoustics Krypton 9 loudspeaker combines the 5″ Kevlar driver with two 6.7″ driver for the lows. Different in design, the latter use a cone made of treated cellulose pulp and mounted on a rubber surround. It is coupled with a lagre coil and a strong magnet system to ensure a long throw and provide dynamic and powerful bass to 40Hz.

Davis Acoustics Krypton: 1.1″ tweeter

The Davis Acoustics Krypton 3 and Davis Acoustics Krypton 9 speakers also benefit from the new tweeter introduced on the Krypton 6. The latter has the particularity of adopting a 1.1″ soft fabric dome, a diameter much larger than on the majority of other speakers. This results in a much larger dispersion area for lower distortion and better resistance during upswings. The sweet spot is also extended, for a better perception of the different frequencies.

The 1.1″ dome tweeter of the Davis Acoustics Krypton range of speakers offers extended radiation for better perception of different frequencies.

Davis Acoustics Krypton: optimized temporal alignment

The French brand has paid great attention to the design of the cabinet of the Davis Acoustics Krypton range. The latter is made of MDF reinforced by internal partitions. It therefore benefits from greater rigidity to more effectively suppress unwanted vibrations and resonance. All Davis Acoustics Krypton speakers also feature a wooden support that slighty tilts the speakers backwards to optimize the temporal alignment of the different drivers. This results in a marked improvement in the sound image and a better perception of the different frequencies.

The temporal alignment of the Davis Acoustics Krypton speakers is optimized by an inclined base, guaranteeing a more precise and detailed reproduction throughout the entire spectrum.

Davis Acoustics Krypton: bass-reflex enclosure

To extend the low frequency response, the Davis Acoustics Krypton 3 and Davis Acoustics Krypton 9 speakers have a bass-reflex enclosure with a front-firing port. The port has a laminar shape to reduce turbulence and ensure a smooth airflow. In addition, positioning the port at the front of the speakers makes it easier to place them in the room by reducing the space required from the rear wall.

The frontal laminar port of Davis Acoustics Krypton speakers extends the bass response while reducing turbulence and making the speakers easier to place in the room.

Davis Acoustics Krypton: a comprehensive range

With these two new models, the Davis Acoustics Krypton range now includes two pairs of floorstanding speakers and one pair of bookshelf speakers. The use of the same technologies on each speaker guarantees optimal performance from one model to another, whether they’re used in a hi-fi or home theater system. Here are the characteristics of each speaker in the Davis Acoustics Krypton range:
