The famous German manufacturer presents its latest Bluetooth earphones dedicated to athletes: the Sennheiser Momentum Sport. As well as promising top-notch musicality, these True Wireless earbuds incorporate biometric sensors, enabling precise physical performance tracking. On paper they seem like the best wireless earphones for workouts. But is this truly the case?

Included accessories
The Sennheiser Momentum Sport True Wireless earphones come with a charging case and wrist strap. They’re also accompanied by three pairs of ear tips (S/M/L) and a set of silicone fins (N/S/M/L). Lastly, a USB-C charging cable and all the necessary documentation are included.

Presentation
Design
The Sennheiser Momentum Sport IEMs feature an “earbud” format and a silicone tip. Once placed in the ear, they guarantee an excellent fit, even without adding the fins. To adapt to different users and ensure optimum stability, three sizes of silicone fins are supplied. However, when they’re added, the earbuds can be rather bulky and uncomfortable for smaller ears.

The charging case for the Sennheiser Momentum Sport wireless earbuds is square and fairly bulky. We would have appreciated a smaller case, so that it could be carried more easily in a pocket when running. On a positive note, a small wrist strap is included. What’s more, the case has a rubber coating and a unique hinge system: it’s flexible and can be opened very wide. The case also includes a USB-C port for charging, concealed behind a rubber cover to ensure a watertight seal.
Sweat-resistant
Sport earbuds require water and perspiration resistance. The Sennheiser Momentum Sport earphones are IP55-rated. They are therefore protected against dust and microscopic residue, as well as water splashes from all directions. In other words, neither perspiration nor unexpected rain showers or sand from the path you’re running on will have any impact on the longevity of these earbuds. The case is certified IP54.
Dynamic sound with ANC
Sennheiser Momentum Sport wireless earbuds feature a 10mm TrueResponse dynamic transducer in each earpiece. The latter has a frequency response of 15Hz to 18kHz. These transducers promise a rich listening experience, ideal for getting you motivated during a sports session.

The Sennheiser Momentum Sport earbuds feature an active noise cancelling system to isolate you from the noise of the gym. In addition to the passive isolation provided by the ear tips, the three microphones work in tandem to pick up surrounding sounds, which are then eliminated by the algorithm. A special mode is dedicated to eliminating wind noise.
Practising an outdoor sport like running can require you to remain aware of your surroundings, especially to hear the noise of traffic. For this reason, the Sennheiser Momentum Sport earphones adopt a Transparency mode that bypasses passive isolation and reproduces surrounding sounds in the earbuds.

Heart rate and body temperature monitoring
As well as playing music, the Sennheiser Momentum Sport wireless earbuds feature biometric sensors to measure and analyze your heart rate and body temperature. To achieve this, they have been designed in partnership with the Polar app (manufacturer of sports watches, fitness trackers, running heart rate monitors, etc.). This data was tested in the laboratory with Cosinus GmbH, specialists in in-ear monitoring of vital parameters, at the Technical University of Munich. Data can be consulted from the Sennheiser Smart Control app. Note that the brand warns of a possible 0.3°C variation in temperature.

App
The Momentum Sport earphones are compatible with the Sennheiser Smart Control app. The latter is intuitive and allows you to: manage connections, modify touch controls, consult biometric data, adjust the 5-band equalizer (including Sound Check functionality), activate ANC, and finally, perform the “Fit test”. This is used to check that the earphones fit properly and are correctly sealed when inserted in the ear.

In addition to the customizable equalizer and Sound Check feature, the app lets you configure “sound zones”. With geolocation enabled on the smartphone, it is possible to automatically apply sound settings (noise control and equalizer) according to the location (entering and leaving the zone). You can add up to 20 listening zones (home, gym, work, etc.).
Bluetooth aptX
Thanks to support for AAC, SBC, aptX and aptX Adaptive Bluetooth codecs, the Sennheiser Momentum Sport wireless earbuds offer excellent transmission quality. Their extensive compatibility means they can be easily synchronized with sports watches, apps and fitness equipment, centralizing all training data. What’s more, these latest-generation earbuds support Multipoint connection.

Touch-sensitive controls
In addition to the app, Sennheiser Momentum Sport in-ear monitors can be controlled by touch. As soon as the earphones are taken out of the case, pairing is initiated by pressing both earbuds simultaneously for a few seconds. Next, you can control playback, navigation, phone calls, volume and noise level. Although complete, these buttons lack responsiveness and it’s sometimes easier to use the smartphone or a smartwatch rather than these controls. Long presses, however, are detected perfectly by the buds. On a positive note, the True Wireless Momentum Sport earphones feature a pause function as soon as they are removed. This ensures that you don’t miss any of the music or podcast being played.

The Sennheiser Momentum Sport wireless earbuds feature microphones for taking calls. The latter reproduce the voice correctly, and make it perfectly possible to have a telephone conversation during a sports session.
Battery life
The Sennheiser Momentum Sport True Wireless earphones offer up to 6 hours of playback on a single charge and up to 24 hours of playback with the case. A quick-charge function is also included, providing an hour of music after just 10 minutes of charging. A full charge takes about 1h30.

Listening conditions
To test these Sennheiser True Wireless Momentum Sport earbuds, we paired them with an aptX-compatible smartphone and a Samsung TV. Multipoint pairing was effective and responsive. We listened to Son-Vidéo.com’s “Le sport en musique” playlist via Qobuz and Spotify.

Our impressions of the Sennheiser Momentum Sport earbuds
The Sennheiser Momentum Sport wireless earbuds feature a warm musicality with an emphasis on the mids and bass. On AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck”, the stereophonic effects were perfectly controlled. Vocals, guitar strumming and percussion instruments were perfectly rendered. The bass was present and gave the music substance, ideal for keeping us motivated throughout our sports sessions. The highs sometimes lacked sharpness, but were never aggressive. We loved turning up the sound to immerse ourselves more deeply in the music.

The app provides access to a 5-band equalizer that lets you modulate the sound reproduction according to individual preferences or musical genre. You can activate the bass boost or switch to Podcast mode to enhance vocal clarity. These two modes are really effective.
The ANC also performed very well, enabling us to isolate ourselves adequately from surrounding noise. Wind noise was also greatly reduced with the anti-wind mode. However, we would have liked to have been able to adjust the intensity of the noise reduction to suit different sound environments. For its part, the Transparency mode was effective, allowing us to hear the noise of traffic.

Note that the transmission between the TV and the earbuds during a video-guided home workout, for example, was very good. We were able to watch a video with no latency between sound and image.
Sennheiser Momentum Sport compared to Denon PerL Pro
The Denon PerL Pro earbuds offer a more intuitive user experience, with touch-sensitive controls that are both more responsive and customizable. They boast a wider frequency response (20Hz – 40kHz vs. 15Hz – 18kHz), as well as spatialized (Dirac Virtuo) and customizable (Masimo Adaptive Acoustic Technology (AAT)) listening. However, the Sennheiser Momentum Sport earbuds gain points with better water and dust resistance (IP55 vs. IPX4) and the addition of biometric sensors for sports performance tracking.
Who are they for?
The Sennheiser True Wireless Momentum Sport earbuds are designed for music lovers looking for equipment that delivers warm, dynamic sound reproduction. They are ideal for sports enthusiasts who want an all-in-one device offering both excellent sound quality and biometric data tracking to enhance their sporting performance.

Conclusion
The Sennheiser Momentum Sport wireless earbuds are excellent companions for those who want to enjoy superior music quality during sports sessions. Although not the most intuitive, these buds really stand out from their competitors with the integration of temperature and heart rate sensors. Active noise cancelling and high-quality calls are also real assets.
