The French hi-fi specialist is renewing its bestseller with the new Elipson Planet L Performance. Retaining the iconic spherical shape that made the original model such a success, this version incorporates an all-new coaxial driver and optimized crossover for even greater performance.
An iconic speaker
Launched over a decade ago as a tribute to the iconic spherical models of the 1970s, the Elipson Planet L rapidly established itself as the French manufacturer’s flagship speaker. Acclaimed by music and movie lovers alike, it boasts an impressive average rating of 4.8/5 on Son-Vidéo.com and has been crowned with numerous prestigious distinctions, including 5 ON-Mag stars, a Diapason award and the HiFi Choice recommendation.
In 2018, to celebrate its 80th anniversary, Elipson revisited this legendary speaker with the Planet L 80ᵉ Anniversaire, equipped with an optimized crossover. In late 2023 during the Paris Audio Video Show, the brand unveiled the Planet L Gold Edition, which retains the improved crossover of the Anniversary Edition, while introducing three new exclusive finishes, enhanced by a gold plinth and grille. With the new Elipson Planet L Performance, the French manufacturer continues to perfect its acoustic recipe by integrating a new driver, promising even greater musicality.

New coaxial driver
To perfect its flagship model, France’s oldest hi-fi brand has incorporated a newly developed coaxial driver into the Elipson Planet L Performance speaker. Its 6.5″ cellulose pulp cone is coated with a damping treatment and benefits from a DAR (Double Asymmetric Rubber) peripheral surround to optimize control and reduce distortion, even at high volume. At the center of this driver is a 1″ treated silk dome tweeter. The tweeter is mounted in a shallow horn and benefits from a neodymium magnet system to maximize responsiveness and precision.

An audiophile crossover
To guarantee optimum frequency separation, the Planet L Performance inherits the high-quality crossover from the Planet L Gold Edition. Carefully selected components are used, including MKP capacitors in polypropylene film and MKT capacitors in polyester film, as well as low-resistance inductors. All of this is connected with 2.25mm² OFC wiring. As a result, the Elipson Planet L Performance speakers are extremely linear over a wide bandwidth from 46Hz to 20kHz. Their high power handling of 100W means they can be easily combined with a wide range of hi-fi amplifiers or AV receivers.

As attractive as ever, with its 29cm diameter sphere, the Elipson Planet L Performance speaker is available in 11 different colors to fit perfectly into any interior. Pre-orders are now available on Son-Vidéo.com for €649, with stock arriving in the first half of March. A full review of these speakers, as well as a Grand Déballage by PP Garcia, will be available shortly.
