Yamaha is expanding its home theater range with two new multi-channel AV receivers designed to make home theater immersion more accessible. With the RX500A (7.2 channels) and RX300A (5.2 channels), the Japanese manufacturer is banking on a particularly attractive formula: Dolby Atmos compatibility, 8K video support, HDMI 2.1, automatic acoustic correction and a simplified interface, all in more modern chassis and at competitive prices.

Making immersive sound more accessible
These two new AV receivers are aimed at people who want to take advantage of the latest home theater technologies without necessarily investing in high-end electronics or a multi-channel setup. Yamaha’s aim is to offer an immersive experience that is immediately accessible, while preserving the sonic DNA and technical expertise that have built the brand’s reputation over several decades. Yamaha places sound immersion at the heart of the user experience, with the Yamaha RX500A featuring 7.2-channel amplification compatible with Dolby Atmos 5.2.2 configurations, while the Yamaha RX300A relies on a 5.2-channel architecture that can be upgraded to a 3.2.2-channel configuration. The Yamaha RX500A AV receiver also benefits from DTS:X decoding, while the RX300A exploits DTS Virtual:X processing to simulate vertical surround effects even without dedicated speakers. Both models deliver 70 W per channel in 2-channel hi-fi conditions.

Even in this more affordable range, Yamaha insists on its home theater heritage. The manufacturer highlights the extensive work carried out on component layout, signal paths and the mechanical stability of the chassis. In particular, both receivers inherit the Anti-Resonance Technology Wedge (A.R.T. Wedge) system, a fifth central foot designed to reduce vibrations and improve sonic precision. A large heatsink is fitted above the HDMI circuits to ensure greater thermal stability and reliability during high-bandwidth video transmissions.

Yamaha also aims to make installation of its new AVRs as simple as possible. To this end, the RX500A and RX300A feature a Quick Guide function that guides users step by step through the set-up process. Whether it’s speaker and TV connection, HDMI input assignment and audio settings, everything is designed to make the experience as intuitive as possible. Both models naturally feature the brand’s YPAO correction system, using an included calibration microphone. The latter analyzes the listening room and speaker characteristics to automatically optimize sound settings.

HDMI 2.1, 8K and gaming
Like the majority of new AV receivers launched in recent years, the Yamaha RX500A and RX300A place a strong emphasis on gaming and the latest video standards. Both models feature four 4K/120 and 8K/60-compatible HDMI 2.1 inputs, plus an HDMI eARC output for retrieving audio streams from a TV via a single HDMI cable.
Dolby Vision and HDR10+ compatibility also ensure support for the latest HDR content, so you can enjoy extended dynamic range, with greater detail in both dark and bright areas. Yamaha also adds ALLM and VRR functions, particularly appreciated by gamers on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X or gaming PC consoles, to ensure a smooth, responsive display. The rest of the connectivity includes two RCA inputs, as well as an optical and a coaxial input to easily centralize all the sources of a modern living room: 4K Blu-ray player, game console, TV box, video streamer or gaming PC.

An AVR designed for music streaming
The Yamaha RX500A goes a step further, integrating full network connectivity to transform the AV receiver into a real music hub. Although it lacks the MusicCast multi-room ecosystem found on the Yamaha Aventage series, it offers direct access to Spotify Connect, Google Cast, AirPlay 2, TIDAL Connect and Qobuz Connect. Podcasts, internet radios, Hi-Res playlists and multi-room streaming can all be controlled directly from a smartphone or tablet. The Yamaha RX300A receiver, on the other hand, is more straightforward, featuring only multipoint Bluetooth for simultaneous connection of two mobile devices and rapid switching between them. A feature also present on the RX500A.

Yamaha RX500A and RX300A prices and availability
The Yamaha RX300A AV receiver will go on sale in August 2026 at a price of €399. The Yamaha RX500A will arrive in September 2026, but its price has not yet been announced by the manufacturer. With these two new AVRs, Yamaha clearly intends to make modern immersive technologies more accessible by offering models that are easy to install, comprehensive and compatible with current uses. With Dolby Atmos, HDMI 2.1, music streaming and automatic calibration, the RX500A and RX300A offer the essentials for a high-performance home theater installation without breaking the budget.
