In the run-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Signify is preparing a new feature designed for home entertainment. Called Sports Live, it involves Philips Hue and Philips Smart Lighting, connected by WiZ. Its principle is based on the use of live sports data to trigger lighting effects during matches, enhancing the immersive experience of the Philips Ambilight system.

Hue Sports Live: light reacts to match highlights
Hue Sports Live uses live match data to control lighting effects in real time. For every important event, such as a goal or a red card, compatible connected lights can trigger a light animation. The aim is to bring the rhythm and intensity of the match into the living room, complementing the on-screen image and Ambilight lighting on Philips TVs.

This feature is designed for live viewing. It allows you to fine-tune timings to take account of slight broadcasting delays. This is an important point, as when watching a match via different services, there may be a discrepancy between the actual action, the video stream and the data received. Sports Live also incorporates pausing: when the user pauses the action, the lighting effects also pause, then resynchronize with the current match events when the action resumes.
The technology is based on an integrated API for live sports data. It links Philips Hue and Philips Smart Lighting home lighting systems, connected via WiZ, to the main events of the match.
A personalized atmosphere throughout the match
Hue Sports Live also accompanies the quieter periods of the match. The lighting can display the color of the favorite team, that of the leading team, or a warm white in the event of a tie. This mood management system maintains a visual link with the state of the match, even when decisive actions become rarer.

This customization gives connected lighting a broader function. It is used to create an atmosphere consistent with the match, adapting to the score and the teams. In a living room equipped for entertainment, this approach can complement a TV or home theater installation by adding an easy-to-perceive layer of luminous information.
Philips Hue and WiZ: two configuration modes
Sports Live is quick to set up. The user selects a favorite team, assigns color-compatible lighting, then the system automatically connects to live match data. Implementation then depends on the ecosystem chosen.

With the Philips Hue app, Sports Live uses the Philips Hue Bridge. This box connects supported smart lights to the software and enables real-time connectivity. Thanks to the Philips Hue ecosystem, the experience can cover a single room or a wider area of the home, depending on the user’s setup.
With the WiZ app, designed for Philips Smart Lighting and “Connected by WiZ” equipment, Sports Live operates via a Wi-Fi configuration. This solution is geared towards accessible and customizable installations, without a Bridge. The system supports an unlimited number of lights, allowing an entertainment installation to evolve as needs change.
A solution designed for home entertainment
Sports Live is part of the Philips Hue and Philips Smart Lighting entertainment ecosystems, connected by WiZ. The functionality is based on sports data and requires no additional synchronization hardware. It therefore complements existing functions such as Hue Sync or WiZ sync with TV.
This logic distinguishes Sports Live from purely image-based synchronization. Here, the lighting trigger depends on the events of the match, placing the sporting data at the heart of the experience. Lighting becomes not only an extension of the action, but also a mood-setting tool capable of following the evolution of the match.

John Smith, Business Leader Connected Lighting, sums up this direction: “With Sports Live, we’re moving beyond the traditional screen-based sync offering, broadening the role of our at-home smart lighting in sports. By using live match data to trigger lighting in real time, we’re creating a new level of precision and immersion to how fans experience sport at home, making every match a truly memorable occasion.”
Summary
With Sports Live, Signify introduces a new way of combining connected lighting and live sport. Available for Philips Hue and Philips Smart Lighting, connected by WiZ, this feature uses sports data to trigger lighting effects for goals, penalty cards and highlights, while adapting the atmosphere to team colors or score status.
Its appeal rests on three points: real-time synchronization based on data received live, configuration suitable for Hue and WiZ ecosystems, and integration with home entertainment without additional synchronization hardware. Rollout will begin in May 2026 with app-integrated communications and feature visibility. The full launch will take place in June 2026, in phase with the start of the football world cup.
