Marantz is expanding its hi-fi lineup with the introduction of the Marantz Model 70 integrated amplifier and the Marantz CD 70 CD player. These new models expand the Japanese manufacturer’s lineup by offering a more affordable alternative to the highly popular Model 60 and CD60. They incorporate the brand’s key design elements and signature technologies while offering a more affordable price point, allowing a wider audience of music lovers to enjoy the famous Marantz sound signature.
Marantz Model 70: an amplifier designed for all sources
The new Marantz Model 70 amplifier delivers up to 2 x 50 W into 8 ohms and 2 x 65 W into 4 ohms thanks to high-current amplification combined with a linear power supply and a toroidal transformer. True to the brand’s philosophy, it utilizes the renowned proprietary HDAM SA3 modules to deliver a sound reproduction that is both detailed and warm. This power, sufficient to drive a pair of bookshelf speakers or small floorstanding speakers, is delivered across a very wide frequency range of 5 Hz to 100 kHz with an extremely low distortion rate of 0.08%.
In terms of connectivity, the Marantz Model 70 amplifier offers the same options as the Model 60, with four analog RCA inputs, including a phono input for connecting a turntable equipped with an MM cartridge. It also features an optical and a coaxial input, both compatible with high-resolution audio files up to 24-bit/192 kHz. Finally, an HDMI ARC input makes it easy to connect to a TV, allowing you to enjoy true hi-fi sound quality for movies, TV shows, and concerts.
While the Marantz Model 70 doesn’t include the HEOS network player found on its bigger sibling, it does feature a next-generation Bluetooth controller that is now compatible with the aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, and aptX codecs. This makes it easy to stream music from a smartphone or tablet with higher quality than standard Bluetooth. This Bluetooth module is bidirectional, allowing you to stream audio to Bluetooth headphones in addition to using the front-panel headphone jack.
Marantz CD 70: the CD is still relevant
With this new generation, Marantz also aims to make the CD more accessible to a wider audience through its new Marantz CD 70 player. As the direct successor to the CD60, it builds on the brand’s decades of expertise in designing audiophile players while incorporating technologies designed to simplify use. It features a new digital-to-analog converter paired with proprietary HDAM-SA2 modules. Its low-noise power supply, balanced architecture, and precision drive mechanism have been designed to preserve the full richness of recordings. The system now features several digital filters to easily tailor the sound reproduction to the user’s preferences or the music being played.
The Marantz CD 70 CD player also features a USB-A port for directly playing high-resolution audio files stored on a USB flash drive, including FLAC, ALAC, and DSD formats. It also features a headphone output with dedicated HDAM-SA2 amplification, as well as analog, optical, and coaxial digital outputs, allowing it to integrate easily into any hi-fi system—though it naturally pairs best with the Marantz Model 70.
With the Model 70 and CD 70, Marantz cleverly rounds out its hi-fi lineup by offering a more affordable pair than the Model 60 and CD60. Despite a lower power output, this new duo retains the core qualities that have built the brand’s reputation: meticulous design, proprietary technologies such as HDAM modules, and a warm, natural sound. It’s an attractive option for audiophiles looking to discover Marantz without investing in the higher-end models.
